You know, sometimes we all get bad news, right? You lost your job, or somebody you know is ill, or you don’t have enough money to get to the end of the month. And bad news is just part of life. But the beautiful thing that God promises is that bad news can turn into good news.
And you know, I was speaking to a friend of mine the other day and they phoned and they said, “I’ve lost my job, and it’s such bad news.” And of course the first thing we think is, we go down the rabbit hole of “I’ve lost my job. Now I’m not gonna have enough money to pay things.” And we go on this rabbit trail of what will happen with the bad news. And I’d listened to them for a little bit and then said, “You know what? Let’s ask God what He thinks about this situation.” Because of course, God doesn’t stop at the bad news. He goes, “No, no, no. Let me show you how I’m gonna turn this around for good.”
And there’s a beautiful verse that a lot of us know in Jeremiah 29:11, and I’m gonna read it from the Amplified version. And it says in the Amplified version, “‘For I know the thoughts and plans that I have for you,’ says the Lord, ‘Thoughts and plans for welfare and peace, not for evil, to give you hope in your final outcome.'” Isn’t this a beautiful promise from God? He knows that things are gonna happen, that don’t look so good and feel like bad situations, but He’s going, “You know what? I have hope for you. I have good plans for you instead. ”
And so this is a go-to verse for me. Whenever something happens that I start to freak out a little bit and I go, “Oh God, what’s gonna happen?” I go to Jeremiah 29:11, and I go and I remind myself and I say, “No, you know what? The Lord has good plans for me. Plans to prosper me and not to harm me, to give me a hope and a future.” And it just helps us to align from going from the bad news into good news. And of course, Jesus came to bring the good news of the gospel.
So the next time you see yourself facing a bad situation, a situation looks bad to you, remember that it’s not the same perspective that God has. We only see a limited view in front of us, but God sees the whole entirety of His plan and they are good for you. So, Lord, thank you so much that we have the opportunity when bad news hits, to turn it around, and keep our focus on you instead of the circumstance in front of us, and go, “You know what, Lord? You are gonna turn this around for good, because your plans for me are good.” Thank you Lord, for your goodness and kindness in our lives. In Jesus’ name.
