A pastor shared a comparison between King Saul and King David, stating that David was more immoral than Saul, but why was David called a man after God’s own heart? Listen to his explanation below.
Man After God’s Own Heart
“David is technically, biblically, often immoral,” he said. The king who most people often looked up to because of his heart of worship, was “immoral.” He killed, committed adultery, and slept with his “best friend’s wife.”
“But the thing I find interesting, men and women of God, is that the person that gets the bad rep is Saul,” the pastor shared. He defended that Saul did not have any issues with his wife or with his children.
“His son Jonathan loved David but he didn’t betray his daddy. He died next to his daddy. Yet Saul is looked down upon and David is celebrated. Why?”
According to the pastor, the Bible reveals the reason why.
“You have not kept the command the LORD your God gave you; if you had, he would have established your kingdom over Israel for all time. 14 But now your kingdom will not endure; the LORD has sought out a man after his own heart and appointed him ruler of his people, because you have not kept the LORD’s command.” (1 Samuel 13:14)
Saul disobeyed God, but David didn’t.
“What is the difference between Saul and David? When Saul was rebuked for his disobedience, he said, ‘Samuel, please don’t take the kingdom away. Don’t take the people away from me. Don’t take this natural crown. I’m sorry because I want to keep my earthly perks.”
But what did David do when he found out God was displeased with him?
“David said, ‘Lord, you can have the castle and you can have the throne. You can take back all of the wealth that I have, but don’t take Your Holy Spirit away from me.”
Samuel was concerned with the physical, but David was concerned with far beyond what he sees. He was more worried about God’s heart.
