God Loves Flawed People

The love of God is so great, that He likes to choose imperfect people to display His glory. God loves flawed people. The only person who has ever been perfect here on the earth, is Jesus Christ. He lived a sinless life, and He came to reconcile us to the Father.

Troy Brewer Teaches About the Life of David and his Imperfections

Troy and Leanna Brewer founded OpenDoor Church in 1995. What began as a ministry to feed the poor, became a place to disciple the people they were reaching.

In a series called “Secret Weapons,” Troy Brewer talks about specific people in the Bible who knew God in a special way. He talked about King David, and how he was a flawed man, but Jesus was proud to say that He is a descendent of David.

“I, Jesus, have sent my angel to testify to you about these things for the churches. I am the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star” (Revelation 22:16).

Jesus loves flawed people, and He is able to redeem them. He came to reconcile us to the Father.

In his message, Troy says, “And you need to know my friends, that there is a redeemed version of you that you have never known that God Almighty is gonna bring to your attention someday. And you’re gonna say, ‘What a beautiful book? Who is that written about?’ He says, ‘It’s written about you.’”

What Does The Bible Say About You?

We all make mistakes from time to time. God knows that we won’t always get it right. This isn’t the green light to sin on purpose; that’s not what this is about. It’s about recognizing that God can redeem our failures and He calls us, because the blood of Jesus qualifies us. God loves flawed people.

Remember Gideon? He was not expecting anything from God. Gideon was afraid and hiding from the Midianites. He certainly didn’t think he would be called to do anything great when the angel of the Lord appeared to him and said to him, “The Lord is with you, O mighty man of valor'” (Judges 6:12). “And he said to him, “Please, Lord, how can I save Israel? Behold, my clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house” (Judges 6:15). God saw a mighty man of valor! He sees past our weaknesses and our circumstances. The Father is so kind!

He is the God who cleans us up and helps us to start over. He doesn’t waste anything! We can rest assured that He has good plans for us! His family means everything to Him!

^“As far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us. As a father shows compassion to his children, so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him” (103:12-13).

Application

Are your failures holding you back? Let Jesus take all of your setbacks and failures. Ask Him for help and He will! Receive God’s grace for your life. His grace is sufficient and He has so much more for you than you could ever ask for or imagine. If you need to repent, the Father is so happy to forgive you and to set you on the right path.

2 Corinthians 12:9-10, “But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”

Prayer

Jesus, we receive your gift of abundant life. We receive all of your goodness and your plans to give us a hope and a future. Thank you for reconciling us to the Father and for your steadfast love. We love you, Jesus! Amen.

4-Year-Old Girl Shares Powerful Message

Harper Rae is a source of inspiration for people who have been following her Instagram account. Her bright, fun, and wise words bring so much joy to some.

In one of her recent videos, she shared about the Holy Spirit’s joy in the hearts of believers.

“You have the joy in your heart. The joy of God and Jesus in your heart. And you have the Spirit of God and Jesus in your heart. God answers prayers because He loves you more than anything in this world. Even if you’re being naughty, even when you make a mistake, He always forgives you,” she said.

4-Year-Old Girl Said, “Ask God To Help You”

Aside from talking about God’s joy, she also shared about asking for help from God.

“When people love you, it means a lot to God. And when people love everybody in the world, it means a lot to God, too. And if no one really knows what you’re doing, join them into the game if they ask. Because it might be a fun game. And you never know!

“When God loves you, it’s telling the truth. And if you don’t know it in your heart, God knows it in your heart. When you feel a feeling that you don’t like, tell God to help you. Or ask your parents to help you. But God and Jesus will help you the best,” she said.

Verses For Kids

There are many verses in the Bible that talk about how to raise children who have reverence for the Lord, just like Harper Rae. Your children can be an inspiration, too! So, may these verses inspire you to partner with God in raising your child:

“Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it” (Proverbs 22:6).

“All your children shall be taught by the Lord, and great shall be the peace of your children” (Isaiah 54:13).

“Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from him” (Psalm 127:3).

“Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger by the way you treat them. Rather, bring them up with the discipline and instruction that comes from the Lord” (Ephesians 6:4).

“Discipline your children, and they will give you peace of mind and will make your heart glad” (Proverbs 29:17).

Today’s Verse

“Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: “I am the Lord your God, who teaches you to profit, who leads you in the way you should go.” (Isaiah 48:17)

Today’s Message

Are you led by God’s truth? His word is our ultimate authority, teaching us where to do and correcting us when we’re wrong. Unfortunately, we live in a world that prioritizes how we feel. While our feelings are great indicators of what’s happening in our hearts, they are not meant to be our leaders. Not only are our feelings a terrible guide to our lives, but they’ll take us only to what feels “good” instead of where we have been called to be. In order to do this, you must plan your days, instead of simply letting them happen to you. Commit to yourself and your family the things that are most important for you…and stick to them! By having commitments in place for community and being present with those in your life, you’ll keep yourself accountable, despite how you feel. When doing this, it’s important to still consider how your heart is doing and what you are feeling (it does matter!) Using wisdom to know when to stick to your commitments and when to say no, for example, is an invaluable tool that is learned over time. Ask the Holy Spirit to lead you in this area! He is faithful to lead you exactly where you’re meant to be.

It’s Time To Put Your Roots Down

Trees need deep and nourished root systems in order to live. This analogy rings true in the Christian life too. As Christians, we need deep root systems in our to walk in the abundant life Christ purchased for us on the cross.

That sounds good, right? But what does it look like in a practical sense? Where do you start and how do you grow a deep spiritual root system? The answers are found all throughout the Word of God, but let’s focus on Paul’s prayer in Ephesians 3.

Digging Into The Word

Ephesians 3:17-19 – “And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, ¹⁸may have power, together with all the Lord’s holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, ¹⁹and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God.“

We see here that Paul is praying for the Ephesians to be rooted in love. He goes on to describe the enormity of God’s love that is the soil in which our spirits are nurtured and grow. What’s even more amazing is that we have been given access to “love that surpasses knowledge”. Can you imagine a love that’s better than anything that you can even imagine?!

God’s love is where we can put our roots down. The expanse of His love is where every want and need can be met.

Reflect

Take some time to reflect on your roots and discover where can you put your roots down even deeper.

Do you spend time experiencing God’s love every day? How?
What are some areas of your life where you could use more of God’s love?
When have you experienced His “love that surpasses knowledge”? What did if feel like? What did you sense?
Are there any roadblocks to experiencing more of God’s love in your life? What can you do to remove them?

Convinced of His Love

Hey, if you knew you were loved, how would you show up? If you were loved, no matter what, how would you show up in life? How would you think? How would you dress? How would you go about your life? In the Word of God, Romans 8:38 says, “I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels, nor demons, neither our fears for today, nor our worries about tomorrow. Not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky, above or in the earth below. Indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ our Lord.”

So it says it right here in the Word of God, that you are accepted and loved no matter what. So how are you going to show up today? What decisions are you going to make today? How are you going to pray today? How are your conversations going to be with your friends? I want to pray for you. God, I just pray that the person watching this video right now feels the immense love that you have for them, and that they can go about their day feeling loved and showered and full of joy, so their life can show that in every way. Amen.

Rely On God’s Love

I have a verse that I want to share with you today and encourage you with. It’s out of 1 John 4:16. I’m going to start in verse 15: “If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in him and he in God.” Verse 16, “And so we know and rely on the love God has for us.” I want to encourage you today to rely on the love God has for you.

Think about that word ‘rely.’ This is what I love to do when I’m reading scriptures, is pick out a verse like, God, what does it actually mean to rely on you? Holy Spirit, give me wisdom and revelation to know you more. Like what does it mean to rely on God? And so think about that. When you go out, some of you may go out boating, you wear a life preserver and you’re relying on it to keep you safe if you go in the water. What does it mean when I sit on a chair? I’m relying on that chair to hold me up. And so what does it look like? This is what I want to ask you and to invite you to ask the Holy Spirit in your own way is, ask Him, “What does it look like for me to rely on you more, to rely on your love?” You know, I’m using practical examples, but to rely on love, that’s an intangible thing, and so we’re going to need the Holy Spirit’s help to understand what this verse means. His word is living and active.

And so I want to pray for you right now, that Holy Spirit, would you release revelation? Would you release insight? Would you release practical ways. That He would show you how to rely on His love more and more, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

Dad’s Message To Man Who Killed His Only Daughter, ‘I Love You And God Loves You’

A 6-year-old girl died in a hit-and-run car accident. But instead of rage and revenge against the driver who killed his only daughter, her father responded in love.

Only Daughter Dies In Hit-And-Run

On Jan. 16, 1996, the only daughter of Harold McDonald, Shantaya, was hit by a car. Apparently, the little girl dropped a picture in the street she had drawn for her dad. When she went back to pick it up, and a speeding car hit her and ran away. Sadly, it took the life of Shantaya.

When Harold learned that her daughter died, he grieved in despair. However, his response towards the driver who killed his daughter surprised the whole community.

Responding To Love

“I wanted to be pleasing to God. And whatever I can do to be that example,” he said. “I was willing to do it even if it hurts. I was willing to forgive.”

When reporters asked what message he would give the person responsible for his daughter’s death, his response touched everyone.

Harold pleaded to the driver to turn himself in and said, “I love you and God loves you.”

Forgiveness

The next day, Mandrell turned himself in to the police, and Harold didn’t press charges. After authorities released the 18-year-old, Harold then visited the young man the following day.

Mandrell sincerely asked for Harold’s forgiveness, crying and repenting for what he did. The father hugged the young man and prayed with the man who killed his daughter.

“Forgiveness wasn’t for Mandrell. It was for me. And it started the process of healing instantly,” Harold stressed.

For him, it was enough that he became an example to many how to forgive, give grace, and love even amidst pain and grief.

Do You Love Yourself?

Life is hard at times. During down times we tend to look down on ourselves. Some of us begin to hate ourselves and our lives. Discouragement sets in and we stop looking after ourselves. We disregard our diet, our self-care, begin to let things around us lie untouched and gather dust. Our self-loathing begins to reflect in the things we do. At such times it is important to remember that God loves us. God didn’t create us because He had to, instead He created us because He wanted to and He wants us to love ourselves too.

The Importance of Self Care

Ephesians 5:29 says, “For no one has ever hated his own body, but he nourishes and tenderly cares for it.” Some people turn to self destructive habits which reveal their hatred for themselves. For example, a person who turns to alcohol, drugs or smoking knows in their mind that they are addictive and harmful to us. Yet they use them disregarding every good advice. Such things may give them minor relief from their problems but don’t really change the situation. When the ‘high’ is over, they return to reality and feel worse than before. The craving to have ‘more’ comes and the vicious cycle goes on till it causes them to lose their health or their life.

Proverbs 19:8 says, “He who gains Wisdom loves his own life; he who keeps understanding shall prosper and find good.”

You are a Gift from God!

What is the first gift God gave you? Every living soul has received it. It is the gift of Life. Besides life God gave you another very unique and special gift. That gift is ‘YOU’ – who you are as a person. Psalm 139:13-15 says, “For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.”

God made you unique and special – one of a kind. The fact that you have a unique thumb print that is different from every other living human being is proof that you are special. Science can verify this Biblical truth for you. You may have encountered people who hated you and disliked you but that doesn’t in any way mean that you are not special. It only shows that those people who did so were mean in spirit and had a stony-heart.

The Importance of ‘Loving Oneself’

You may wonder “Is it Biblical to love yourself?” Well, it is Biblical. Mark 12:31 says, “The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’There is no commandment greater than these.” Do you see that the base on which you are to love your neighbor is the way you love yourself. There are some people who love themselves so much that they forget about others. This verse reminds such people to think about others the same way they love themselves.

Unfortunately, there are also people from the other end of the spectrum who have been badly beaten in the race of life who don’t love themselves much. It is especially so if their childhood had been difficult and lonely. Psalm 34:18 says, “The Lord is close to those who are of a broken heart.“ Jesus has Himself suffered so He knows your suffering. In Psalm 91: 15-16 God promises those who suffer, “He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. With long life will I satisfy him and show him My salvation.”

Jesus Gave His Life for You!

You have value! God looks upon you with such great value that He sent His only Son, Jesus Christ to die on the cross for your sake – so high is the value He places on you.

In John 15: 9 Jesus says, “As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love.” Jesus wants you to take care of yourself. He wants you to enjoy good and spend your life knowing you are loved and cherished by Him. Let us acknowledge His love for us and let go of all despair and embrace the ‘Joy of the Lord‘ because Nehemiah 8:10 says, “And be not grieved and depressed, for the joy of the Lord is your strength and stronghold.”

Let us be good stewards – ‘caretakers’ of this person, personality, body, mind and heart that God has entrusted us with. Let us treat our ‘self’ with care because He cares for us! Let us seek to know God’s plan and purpose for our life. Let us find those things that He created us for. We will learn that the things we enjoy are the things that God wired us for. We will find God has dreams for us to fulfill and He wants us to enjoy this journey of life like an adventure and not look at life as a burden.

Celebrate the Life God gave you

The thought of taking one’s life and wanting to commit suicide is the worst insult to God who created us. It is like throwing away the best gift He gave you just because someone else treated you badly or because you didn’t get some ‘thing’ that you wanted. David wrote in Psalm 27:10, “Though my father and mother forsake me, the Lord will receive me.” Don’t focus on those who hate you, focus on the Loving Father Who truly loves you!

Jesus says in John 16:24, “Up to this time you have not asked a [single] thing in My Name [as presenting all that I AM]; but now ask and keep on asking and you will receive, so that your joy (gladness, delight) may be full and complete.“

Ask Jesus to come into your heart and your life and you will never be lonely again. He has promised in Joshua 1:5, “I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

When God Said, ‘I Love You’…

When I was going through the worst time of my life, I knew I had reached rock bottom. It was a time when I wanted to give up on life altogether, a time when I didn’t know how much God loved me. Broken, bruised, unrecognizable… It felt like walking in a dark, dark, never-ending tunnel with no light in sight. During that time I lost track of how much I cried. Tears dried up. I had lost hope altogether.

An eye opener

During that time, I thank God for my best friend, who was with me. She would pray with me and cry with me. The best thing she did for me was, gift me a book to read. The book was titled ‘Streams in the Desert’ by Lettie B Cowman.

I began to read it daily. I was surprised to learn that there were verses in the Bible that I didn’t even know existed! Born into a Christian family, I was actively involved in church activities. Though I had won prizes for Catechism and attended church without fail since childhood, I had no idea that there is a treasure to be found inside the Bible.

This devotional book became a lifesaver because it connected me to the ultimate “Book of books”. While reading it I felt a deep hunger within me to know the Word of God. I got hold of a complete Bible and started to read the Books of Wisdom first. I was surprised to find that all the answers I needed about life and how to make the right choices in life were in the Bible. I wish I knew it earlier! It would have saved me from a lot of pain.

God Speaks Through His Word

What really touched my heart is how God began to speak to me through His Word! I was bowled over! It was the most amazing thing to know that the words of love I always wanted to hear were spoken by God in Isaiah chapter 43.

The Bible reveals God's love for you

My heart leaped with joy as I read the words that God said, it was as though they were written only for me!

“I have called you by your name; you are Mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you, and through the rivers, they will not overwhelm you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned or scorched, nor will the flame kindle upon you. For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior; I give Egypt [to the Babylonians] for your ransom, Ethiopia and Seba in exchange [for your release]. You are precious in My sight and honored, and because I love you, I will give men in return for you and peoples in exchange for your life. Fear not, for I am with you.”

The Most Amazing Thing

It was the most amazing thing that ever happened to me. The Creator who created the universe and all that is, was speaking to me. God was saying, “I love you!” He spoke directly to my heart through those words. Suddenly, I felt loved, cherished, accepted and understood. It changed everything for me!

As I read the Bible more, I began to ask Him questions and receive answers from Him. It was but a natural thing for me to love Him back more and more as I felt God’s love for me in the depths of my heart.

Thus began a new chapter in my life when God became real to me through His Word. I prayed and asked Him to reveal Himself to me the way He is, not as people say He is or the world says He is – but the way He really IS. He answered that prayer by making His Word come alive to me!

The Most Fulfilling Relationship

Today the most fulfilling relationship I have on earth is the one I have with the One who created the universe and all that is. I would have it no other way. The Bible has become my best friend, the Book of Life that teaches me everything I need to know but even more than that, it has become a lifeline that helps me hear from God! Every time I need assurance from the Lord that He loves me, I pick up my Bible and read His loving words to me.

“I love you!” God says to you. Ask Him who created the universe and created you to reveal Himself to you! Ask God to show you how much He loves you and allow Him to touch your life in ways you have never experienced before. He promises to never leave you nor forsake you. So great is His love for you. If you accept Him into your heart Your life will never be the same again!

Do You Believe God Loves You?

Sometimes, the most random moments of life are the most profound. As Jeff and Alyssa Bethke rolled on the floor in celebration with their baby daughter, who had just learned to roll over, Jeff wondered, “Is this really God’s heart for his children?”

It’s hard to imagine a powerful, mighty, almost mechanical God-in-the-sky rejoicing over his people like this. But in a recent Youtube video, Jeff Bethke calls us to expand our view of God.

A Limited View of God

Is God personal, celebratory, and whacky, or punishing, exacting, and judgmental? In his book The Knowledge of the Holy, Christian author A.W. Tozer declares, “What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.”

Take a second to consider what you first think of when you think of God. In your own mind, is he distant, intimate, alienated, mighty, weak, or kind? To an adventurer, God is chaotic; to a methodical person, God is orderly; to a critical person, God is judgmental. Whatever characteristic is foremost in your mind is likely a key attribute of yourself.

Our conception of God can too easily become wrapped up in our own identity. As Christians, our challenge is to pop the bubble of our limited view of God. If we are three-dimensional, God is of infinite dimensions. Pursue a greater knowledge of Him by asking Him to reveal more of His attributes–one-by-one.

God’s Infinite Attributes

If you spend the rest of your life trying to get to know the ins-and-outs of me, you’d be bored in 2 days. But the amazing things is that you can spend all your life trying to know God, and continue to discover new attributes of His character each day.

So who is God–really?

According to Jeff, the often-overlooked attribute of God that we should focus on today is God’s delight in us. God “rejoices in us, dances, leaps, and skips over us” exuding playfulness–even before we have done anything to “earn” it. Even in the middle of our sin.

God’s Amazing Love

That’s right–God doesn’t just love us because he has to. God chooses to delight in us. Zephaniah 3:17 paints this mind-boggling picture of God:

“The Lord your God in your midst,
The Mighty One, will save;
He will rejoice over you with gladness,
He will quiet you with His love,
He will rejoice over you with singing.”

Rejoice over me? With all that I have done? Yes, in fact, according to Jeff Bethke, God rejoices over us even in moments of struggle. Just as he and his wife rejoiced over their daughter as she struggled to roll over.

God’s love is there before, during, and after sin. Jeff remarks, “You don’t have to run and hide for two weeks to clean up [after sinning]. Because of Jesus there’s grace for you.” And smack in the middle of sin is when we need that grace the most.

You Can’t Earn God’s Delight

Jeff says that love is a “fuzzy word” because it is often misused in our sinful world. “Earned” love is not really love. But a relationship with God is greater than even the healthiest relationships here on Earth. When it comes to God’s unconditional love, it’s there right when you wake up in the morning–before you even set foot out the door to accomplish things.

God’s love was even there for Jesus as he was baptised–before he started his ministry and before he died on the cross. During Jesus’s baptism, God parted the sky to declare, “This is my son, in whom I am well-pleased” (Matthew 3:17).

The best part? Through Jesus’s sacrifice, we can have this same intimate, delightful relationship with our Father God–we don’t even have to do anything to earn it.
