I have got a cool little thing that I share with lots of people, and this is how I stay mindful of God. Because you know, all of us have busy days. There are lots of different things happening, and I’d find myself doing something in my day and then going, “Oh, I haven’t talked to God in a little bit,” or, “Oh, I should’ve talked to Him about that. I should have asked Him about…” and I started to feel guilty about not connecting with Him. And then I just talked to Him one day. I said, “Lord, how do I do this? How do I make sure that I’m mindful of you? That I talk to you? That I connect with you during the day?” And He said, “I’m going to give you just a practical key.”
So in my car, as we drive in our car, we have a passenger seat, right? And so when there’s nobody else in the car with me, I imagine Jesus sitting in the passenger’s seat with me. So I don’t put anything on there. I don’t put my handbag on there or files or papers or anything like that. I keep the seat completely open. And I imagine that I’m looking at Him, talking to Him. It has so helped me to understand how to do what Paul says, “Pray without ceasing,” is to be able to talk to Jesus all the way through the day. And so this is the beautiful message in Psalm 121. And I’m going to read it to you from the Amplified version. It says, “I will lift up my eyes to the hills around Jerusalem. From where will my help come? My help comes from the LORD who made heaven and earth. He will not allow my foot to slip or be moved. He who keeps me will not slumber. Behold, He who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The LORD is your keeper; the LORD is your shade on your right hand. And the sun shall not smite you by day, nor the moon by night. The LORD will keep you from all evil and keep your life. The LORD will keep your going out and your coming in, from this time forth and forevermore.”
That is how mindful God is of us. And we get to be mindful of Him, because when we realize that He’s always thinking about us and we get to connect with Him, we know that everything is going to be okay. Thank you so much, Lord, that you are so intentionally mindful of us, that you love thinking about us, being involved in our day-to-day business, that you love talking to us about everything that happens all the way through. This is how mindful you are of us. And Holy Spirit, help us to be more mindful of you, too. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
