Tiago Volpi, Toluca’s goalkeeper, inspired many with his remarkable gesture after the end of the Liga MX championship. Hand in hand, he brought his whole family to the field and knelt down in prayer.
The Liga MX game on October 31 determined the champion for the season. It was an intense battle between Pachuca and Toluca. The Pachuca won the first leg, having a score of 5. Meanwhile, Toluca got 1.
And for the final leg, the Pachuca swooped and defeated their opponent. They scored 3 while Toluca once again received 1. Their aggregate scores totaled 8-2.
Although the Toluca was defeated, their spirits were not broken. This was evident in Volpi’s response after the game. He still glorified God despite the situation.
The video that captured the family’s devotion went viral. The recording shows Tiago, with his wife and two kids, approaching the goal field. The couple then knelt and prayed. They honored God, win or lose.

Claro Sports interviewed Tiago, who broke down in tears. “It is not easy to get here first, it is not easy, and nobody wants to lose a final,” he said. “But there are two teams, one has to win. They both deserved it a lot.
He continued, “It’s tough the way it went, but I just have to be thankful for being back here in this country. I’ve been through a lot lately, coming back, being in a final, and for that, I’m grateful.”
Tiago has been bold in expressing his faith. He would often praise God in his Instagram posts.
“For me, being a football player was never just a profession, but a fulfillment of a child’s dream,” Tiago expressed. “Being able to complete 500 career games while experiencing such a special moment is a true blessing. I just have to thank God, my family, and everyone who has helped me..”
