In an interview with Stephen Colbert, actress Patricia Heaton admitted that “career comes and goes.” She shared how this realization helped her hold on to her faith.

A three-time Emmy Award winner who starred in “Everybody Loves Raymond,” “The Middle,” and the CBS sitcom “Carol’s Second Act,” actress Patricia Heaton shared how her faith became constant in her life.
For her, acting was like a spiritual experience.
She spoke from her heart about how she’d “always felt at home on stage” like she was in church.
“I felt very connected to what I was doing. Maybe because we are creating, and God is a Creator. When you read the whole first chapter of Genesis, He made the earth and the stars. And He made man and gave life to Adam,” the actress said.

And then she added, “So, when we’re doing characters, we’re breathing life into these creatures.”
Patricia recalled the moment when she questioned God for closing the door for her even after nine years of waiting.

“I was here for nine years in New York. I mean nothing; I couldn’t make anything happen. And I was so angry at God. I was like, “You put this in me, and You shut every door; what is going on?,” she asked God.
Eventually an opportunity did come, but not in the way she expected. She went to an orphanage with the church to serve them and helped the kids.
Glorifying God
That was when she had the realization that she had been putting herself at the center of her life.
“I had this huge sense of peace that I never had before. Then I realized that I had been making the acting career the center of my life. There’s one thing that could only be the center of your life and that’s your faith. And I think I wasn’t doing that, and I think God was withholding everything until I made sure that He was the center of my life and not my career. Because look, the career comes and goes. You can’t rely on those things because they don’t last. You have to know that the purpose of your life is glorifying God with your life and not glorifying yourself,” she concluded.
