A Ukrainian woman gives birth to a baby girl while hiding in an underground shelter as bombs exploded over the city of Kyiv.
Ukrainian Woman Gives Birth
Just before 8:30 PM of February 25, the beacon of hope for Ukraine has been birthed. As Russian troops continued to attack Kyiv, Ukrainians are taking shelter in an underground metro. While gun fires and bomb explosions rage outside the shelter, the screams of a pregnant 23-year-old woman resounded the shelter. She was giving birth to her baby.
Ukrainian police heard her cry and helped her deliver her baby right in the underground shelter. After stabilizing the baby and the mother, an ambulance came and took them to the hospital. They are now both healthy and stable.
Baby Girl Mia
Pictures of baby Mia right after her birth circulated on the internet. People are calling her a beacon of hope and freedom for her country.
“First (to our knowledge) baby was born in one of the shelters in Kyiv. Under the ground, next to the burning buildings and Russian tanks… We shall call her Freedom! Believe in Ukraine, #StandWithUkraine,” MFA Ukraine tweeted.
“A little shining beacon of hope during some of the darkest times,” The London Chatter wrote.
Truly, baby Mia became the beacon of hope for her country as rumors of peace talk between the countries are being reported. According to the Independent, Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky made an announcement that the two countries have finally agreed to hold peace talks. The meeting is reported to take place at the Ukrain-Belarus border.
