Have you ever been getting ready to walk into church before worship, or maybe you’re preparing for your own personal time with the Lord and you just feel this urge that you just need to clear your mind, get rid of like whatever the week is, you want to brush it off? Maybe the pastor even says like, “You know, whatever’s been going on in your week, just push it aside, we’re going to focus. ” And you’re like, I want to focus. I want to focus on the Lord.
I’m actually here to say, that’s the opposite of what you should do. When you come into His presence, bring what you have and lay it at His feet. In 1 Peter, it says, “Cast your cares on Him, cast your anxieties on Him, because He cares for you.” He’s not asking you to cast it aside. He’s not asking you to fix yourself first or tone it down, or even whatever sin. Like we bring that into the presence and lay it in surrender at His feet and allow Him to heal us, Him to purify us, Him to cleanse us.
So just remember when you go into that, and your default is to say, or to think, “Oh, I’ve got to clean up this mess” or, “I need to like be okay” or, “I need to just not think about this.” Don’t do that. Just bring it to Him and let Him take care of it with you.
Lord, I just ask that your Spirit would remind us who your Son is and what He did for us, and that we can lay our cares, lay our anxieties, bring our sin to Him and that you cover it. You’re a high priest that knows what we’ve been through. So I just ask for that reminder and just that peace that we can come into your presence and allow you to purify us, you to comfort us, and you to give us that hope and renew our faith. Amen.
