Christian author and speaker Lisa Bevere expressed in a conversation that “friendship is a gift.” She emphasized the significance of having genuine friends in people’s lives.
A Friend
Having friends is a wonderful experience. They frequently enter people’s lives unexpectedly, whether in school, the workplace, various organizations, or church. Their presence can alleviate loneliness and bring meaning to one’s life. Through friends, individuals can enjoy companionship, fun, adventure, encouragement, and love. Nonetheless, at times, friends can also be the source of heartbreak.
But in Proverbs 17:17, it says, “A friend loves at all times..” This is how the author described a friend. Perhaps this is the true definition of a real friend.
Friendship Is A Gift
In an episode of Better Together TV, Lisa Bevere and Sheila Walsh engaged in a conversation discussing the significance and essence of real friendships.
“Friendship is a gift,” Lisa remarked. “And if we want to have friends, we have to show ourselves how to be a good friend and that isn’t just waving hi to everybody.”
The Christian author also emphasized that a true friend would protect.
“That’s about covering other people’s weaknesses and speaking to their strengths,” she said.
Sheila’s Story
Then, her friend Sheila shared a memorable moment with Lisa that she would never forget. It was when Sheila dedicated her time to Lisa during a dark season, even though she had to speak at an event at Gateway.
“Do you remember the night that I came to hear you speak at Gateway?” she told Lisa. “So, our sharpening iron, I came because Lisa was speaking at Gateway and I was in a really bad place.”
Sheila remembered struggling with her marriage at that time, feeling overwhelmed by hopeless emotions. Despite Lisa being occupied, she didn’t want to burden her. However, Lisa took Sheila by the hand and led her into a room, where she prayed for her.
“And I got down on my knees and you prayed over me such a powerful prayer,” Sheila narrated. “And we’re in such a different place now.”
Finally, Lisa remarked, “Your real friends let you be in one season. But they don’t keep you in that season. They celebrate the next season.”
