Photos of a Sherman high school football player praying with his opponent go viral and the reason is beautiful.
Sherman High School
Gage Smith is a high school senior in Sherman, Texas who plays for the school’s football team. On November 1, Gage played against the West Mesquite High School and Sherman High School won 56-27.
Gage made a number of key plays during the game but most noteworthy was what he did after the game that really made a difference.
The Sherman player approached West Mesquite’s player Ty Jordan and he asked if he could pray for him and his mom.
Touching moment
“I just had a moment with him praying over him, his mom, and his family,” Gage said.
Ty’s mom is battling cancer. Upon hearing the news, Gage grabbed at the chance to pray for their family. The two players knew each other from a select 7-on-7 team they both played on.
“At that moment, it wasn’t about the score or being opponents, it was about showing compassion,” he added.
Viral photos
Ty’s aunt posted the photo of the two players praying on Facebook and it quickly went viral.
“So this happened after the game. Gage Smith #2, Sherman High, told Ty I heard about your mother I’m sorry and I wanna pray with you. This melts my heart,” Tekka Jordan, Ty’s aunt, wrote on her Facebook post.
The post has been shared over 157,000 times!
Gage Smith’s compassion
“He’s a true leader, and he has compassion, and it followed through for a lot of the guys on the team,” Head coach J.D. Martinez said.
The compassion of this young player to his opponent and his boldness to pray in public a true testament of faith. Let this be an inspiration to our younger generation.
