Psalm 37:4, I believe, gives us an important key to unlocking God’s promises in our lives. It says, “Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” I’ve quoted this scripture many times, but last year, the Lord gently tugged at my heart, and He said, “Do you actually know what it means to delight in me? Or are you more concerned with skipping to the part where I give you the desires of your heart?” He said, “If you aren’t seeking my face and drawing near to hear my voice, then you’ve missed it, because my plans far exceed anything that you could plan for yourself.”
And so this led me to a place of repentance and I began to ask the question, what does it mean to delight myself in the Lord? I believe that it looks like waking up with a heart of joy and thankfulness each morning. I believe it looks like handing Him all of our questions and doubts and saying, “God, I don’t have to understand everything right now, but I trust you, and I’ll rest in the unknown.” Delighting in Him begins to align our heartbeat to His. When we learn to truly delight in the Lord, then we come to this beautiful partnership with our Creator, where we begin to see our dreams become reality.
For those of you waiting to see those promises fulfilled, I’m right there with you, but it’s time to delight in the delay and worship while we wait. The Creator of the universe is holding your heart and He wants to see your dreams come true far more than you want to.
I want to pray for you today. God, thank you for each and every person watching this video, I ask that you would just awaken their hearts to truly learn to delight in you. Help them to seek your face and to hear your voice and to follow where you lead. God, I thank you for the plans and the promises that you have for each and every person watching this video. Thank you for teaching us to delight in you. Amen.
