These 75 inmates fell to their knees to give their lives to Jesus in a maximum-security prison. Most of these men are serving life sentences in a Missouri prison.

The inmates raised their hands and shared that they were struggling with anxiety, depression, and addiction. But God healed and set them free! Now, they have a new hope and a future. There is a revival happening within prison walls!

75 Inmates Give Their Lives to Jesus

God Behind Bars Ministries has been ministering to different prisons throughout the United States.

They have helped lead inmates to be baptized, accept Jesus, and embrace a new life inside and outside prison.

Like this man, who has been imprisoned for 30 years:

“I am sentenced to 30 years for armed robbery. Knowing Jesus and having a relationship with Jesus makes a big difference. For many years, I knew of Jesus, but I didn’t have a relationship with Him,” he said.

“It was in 2008 that I came to have a relationship with Jesus. A prison without God? There’s no worse prison than any prison man can ever make,” he added.

Moreover, another testimony comes from a man who was sentenced to 20 years in prison. Now, as a former prisoner, he has been leading hundreds of people to Christ.

In a detailed post, RJ shared his testimony, likening it to the story of the prodigal son in the Bible.

How To Break Chains Of Addiction Off Your Life

Not everyone who is bound wants to break chains of addiction off their life until they finally come to terms with their situation and call out for help. The good news is that with God it is possible to break chains of addiction and be completely set free.

No matter what addiction we face, God offers us a way out. It could be anything from smartphone dependency to drugs and alcohol;  or lust and issues related to Sex in the Digital Age.

If you’re caught up in a cycle of addiction, you probably think the way out requires a complex rehab strategy to break chains of addiction but that’s not necessarily the case. With God, things are pretty straightforward, in fact so simple that at times we may not always see the solutions He offers – though they are staring us in the face!

No matter what your struggle is, God knows and He cares and He wants you to be free. He wants to help you break chains of addiction.

Whatever addiction you may be affected by, whether it is what you allow your eyes to see or the amount of food that goes in your mouth, the core problem is our age-old battle against ‘SIN’. Sin comes in many different forms and we all struggle with something. No matter what your struggle is, God knows and He cares and He wants you to be free. That’s why He has made a way out for you and me to break chains of addiction.

You can break chains of addiction

The simple solution is REPENTANCE. As Jesus said to the woman caught in the act of adultery, “Go and sin no more.” Repentance means turning around from the way you’ve been going and to start heading in the opposite direction! It involves coming to terms with the fact that you have a problem and making a decision to turn your back on it.

This means naming the issue. It could be anything from overeating to binge watching TV to all kinds of things that steal your time, health and relationships, robbing you of your family, vocation, and destiny. There is no doubt about it, sin brings devastation. The Bible says the result of sin is death. It also tells us that the enemy comes to kill, steal and destroy. That is what addiction accomplishes for us. Yet many of us continue to flirt with our addiction and its false promises. It may offer temporary comfort but ultimately it will lead us down a trail of destruction.

This reminds me of the well-known quotation… “Sin will take you farther than you want to go, keep you longer than you want to stay, and cost you more than you want to pay.” The writer of this statement is unknown but the truth it shares should be made known to everyone to help them break chains of addiction. Even so, we may know what’s best for us and yet somehow, in this world where anything goes, we can easily be anesthetized to the consequences of our negative actions.

The answer as I have said is repentance, which means choosing to follow Jesus no matter what. Remember that old Sunday school song…   ‘I Have Decided to Follow Jesus’ –  “Tho’ none go with me, still I will follow… The world behind me, the Cross before me; No turning back, no turning back.”

Repentance requires naming the problem and refusing to accept its ongoing existence in our lives by putting our faith in Jesus to break chains of addiction. After all, His Name is the Name Above All Names – the name that is higher than sickness and disease, the name above addiction. As we speak His name over the situation, we give Him permission to intervene in our situation and our faith rises to break chains of addiction. And, of course, as we pray and confess our sin to God He is faithful to forgive us and cleanse us.

If you are struggling today, trust Jesus to deliver you.

He said He did not come to condemn the world but to save it. He said He came to set the captives free. Yes, the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life. (Romans 6:23). And that doesn’t just mean life in Heaven where there is no sin, it means having a victorious life on earth. It means we can break chains of addiction no matter what they are.

Yes, the enemy comes to kill, steal and destroy but Jesus came to give us life and life in abundance (John 10:10). Abundant life is not struggling with sin. God has made it possible for us to be reconciled with Him, forgiven of our sin and empowered to break chains of addiction and live a victorious life.

Sin is like a deep ravine that separates us from God. In order to cross that vast divide, we need a bridge. Jesus is that bridge. As we accept Him as our Savior, we are empowered to live a new life in Christ, putting our past behind and embracing the freedom we can have in Jesus.

For those Christians who continue to struggle – do not feel condemned. Jesus did not come to condemn the world but to save it. The Bible also tells us that there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. Repentance is the first step to break chains of addiction but there is much more we can do to walk in victory. Different Christian writers have different perspectives on how one can overcome, but I would like to share just five things that have worked in my life to break chains of addiction.

5 steps to break chains of addiction

  1. Renew your mind As the saying goes, “Garbage in, garbage out!” If we have spent years putting garbage into our minds it may take as long to change our way of thinking. God’s Word is the only thing that cleanses us and we need to read it and replace our addictive thoughts with scriptures that inspire us towards godly living. Romans 12:1-2 instructs us not to conform to the ways of the world, but to be transformed through the renewing of our minds. We are called to offer our bodies as a living sacrifice. Sin stems from rebellion against God and our sacrifice to Him is the exact opposite of that.
  2. Fast. Jesus said that some spiritual conditions can only be turned around through fasting in prayer. God delivered me overnight from smoking years ago, but when it comes to overeating I’ve had to learn to live a fasted life. It’s obvious, what we feed grows and what we starve dies. Sometimes we have to cut off certain things, separate ourselves from people who hold us back and avoid particular places that perpetuate a weakness. Fasting is not just about what we eat, it can be about denying ourselves things we know will cause us to stumble. I sometimes do a liquid fast for three days and I feel the supernatural power of God sustaining me. I’m all too aware that I could never do this in my own strength and I encourage you to try fasting and see what God supernaturally accomplishes in your life.
  3. Prayer is simply communicating with God, telling Him your deepest thoughts, including confessing your weaknesses. Run to God every time you mess up, don’t run away from Him. Remember when you have a setback you don’t go all the way back to square one, you can pick yourself up and get back on track. Through prayer, you can learn to come alongside God and walk in His strength to break chains of addiction.
  4. Be on the alert for situations that will take you back into your addiction. We all have triggers and it’s important to know what your triggers are and avoid them. Watching Christian TV is a great way you can learn to live above temptation. This is part of renewing your mind, but it also helps connect you with the testimonies of others who have learned to walk in victory. GOD TV receives e-mails regularly from those who have been delivered from all kinds of addiction, from alcoholism to pornography, drugs and many other life-controlling issues. Many have been able to turn away from an unwanted same sex attraction, others have broken free from fear and anxiety. Trust God to meet you where you are at, break chains of addiction and turn your situation around just as He had for many others.
  5. Have a vision. Discover what God has called you to do. See fulfilling your calling as infinitely greater than wallowing around in your addiction. As the song suggests, trade in your sorrows, trade in your shame. Lay them down for the joy of the Lord. As Jim Elliot says “He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose.”

Never give up hope.

We serve the God of all hope, full of mercy and compassion. We as believers will always face temptation, but God promises us He will always make a way out. Let’s give up the things that hold us back, break chains of addiction and embrace all God has for us.

Former Inmate Wrongfully Convicted Of Murder Forgives Offenders

Josh was wrongfully convicted of murder and spent 16 years in prison. During those years, he prayed for death on two occasions.

Wrongfully convicted

Without DNA, blood type, fingerprint, palm print, weapon, or a paper trail, Josh was convicted of murder. A false testimony and a fabricated story were all it took for Josh to be imprisoned.

“On two occasions, I prayed for death,” he said. “Not because I was hopeless, because I just– I’ve gotten tired. I didn’t want to wake up another day in prison.”

Dealing with the conflict in his own heart about the lies told about him has been like a long wrestling match with God, the world, and himself. Josh felt he was still in that match, and it’s never-ending. But before his trial, Josh gave his life to Christ. His spiritual rebirth was the only thing that got him through the years of injustice during his time in prison.

Wanting Freedom

“I have to focus on God’s narrative of my life more than the other narratives. And what He says about me, who I am in the eyes of my Father in heaven, who I am in Christ,” he said.

God helped Josh get rid of the anger in his heart. Eventually, he was able to forgive those responsible for his confinement.

“To really be free in prison for a crime you didn’t commit, you have to address forgiveness. When Christ forgives me, He restores me. I’m given a plan, a purpose, and an opportunity to start over every day,” he said.

Josh took it to his prayer closet and wrestled with God. He allowed Him to do whatever He had to do in his life, to let it all go or to take it from him.

“So that I can show these men the love of Christ,” he said.

Free After 16 Years In Prison

While being set free from anger and unforgiveness, he would also be set free physically. Josh received a legitimate innocence ruling during his latest hearing, which went beyond being found not guilty. He was freed and redeemed.

Even in the darkest, most horrible, and evil cells, God can reach down, change, and embrace a man. He transforms us. The old Josh has died, but the new Josh lives on in Christ.

“This story offered me an opportunity, and offers me an opportunity, to share Christ in a much more powerful and wider range than I could ever have imagined or dreamed. In a case that has so much darkness, the only light that shines is the forgiveness of Christ. That He’s demonstrated through me for others,” Josh said.

Resenting God For Her Illness

Because of her Christian parents, Laura Danley knew about Jesus as a little girl. She went to church and loved God growing up. However, at the age of 15, Laura grew to resent God after she was diagnosed with an illness. She had a life-threatening heart condition, which shortened her life span. Consequently, she had to stop participating in track, the sport she loved, because of it.

At that point, Laura felt devastated and turned her back on God. She blamed Him and complained about how it happened when she was being a good kid. Since then, the teen began to be rebellious.

Embracing The Wiccan Religion

Laura skipped some of her classes and continued her sport in secret. Then, one unfortunate night, a group of boys tried to assault her at school. She couldn’t forget the trauma, which led her to desperately fill the void in her heart with anything, including getting involved in the occult. She hoped it would give her the power to control everything.

At 17, Laura discovered that she actually didn’t have a life-threatening illness; she was just misdiagnosed. This realization empowered her to delve deeper into the occult. However, later in her journey, demonic forces began to attack her terribly, affecting her mental stability.

Laura immersed herself further into the Wiccan religion until it caused significant turmoil in her life. She experienced depression even after marrying and giving birth to her daughter, Haley. Man’s Search For Missing Drugs Led Him to Practice Witchcraft

Richard shared his testimony about how his missing drugs led him to practice witchcraft. He thought it was his calling, but God showed him the real thing.

What Led Him to Practice Witchcraft

After searching for it since he was a small child, Richard Lorenzo believed he had finally discovered his life’s purpose.

“I started going to other witches and warlocks. And it was like an everyday thing. I was told by these witches and warlocks that I was supposed to be one, that this is what I was called to do,” he said.

But it wasn’t what he wanted from the beginning. Richard’s initial goal was to get wealthy so he could buy anything he wanted and widen his influence. Before long, he was pursuing the lives he had seen in movies and on television.

Although he didn’t do drugs very often, he began selling marijuana while still in high school. Richard believed it to be the simplest method of earning money so he could put it toward investments in respectable businesses.

Man’s Search For Missing Drugs Led Him to Practice Witchcraft

Seeking stability, Richard left college after two years and enlisted in the Navy. However, he discovered a new marijuana-selling industry. He soon found himself purchasing marijuana in large quantities and exporting it throughout the nation.

Then, a $220,000 drug package vanished in 2018. Richard became enraged, even though it was a tiny portion of what he was making.

Richard’s girlfriend Carleen recommended they go see her uncle, a Voodoo priest from Haiti, after observing his fixation with tracking down the thief. The two took a plane to Haiti to visit the priest in the early months of 2019, following Richard’s discharge from the Navy.

Although Richard never received a response regarding the drugs that went missing, his curiosity was piqued. And so, Richard lost track of his missing drugs and immersed himself in witchcraft upon returning home to California.

God’s Way

After Carleen became pregnant a few months later, the couple relocated to Florida so that Carleen could be nearer to her family. Richard saw nothing strange at that point, but he noticed many Christians began to influence him.

Eventually, Richard got an invitation to church from a different person. Richard finally gave up and went to church after a few weeks.

“As I was walking into the church, I felt an overwhelming feeling of peace. The atmosphere was light, which is the complete opposite of how it was in those witchcraft stores,” he said. “When they opened up for service, they started playing ‘Reckless Love.’ How He leaves the 99 for the one. That was the first time I felt the presence of God. I began to cry, to weep.”

Richard got a Bible and began reading it in spite of his reservations in an attempt to find the peace he had experienced. After a month, while he was by himself in his apartment, something finally clicked.

New Life

“I put down the Bible and it was this realization that hit me. In my mind, I was like, ‘God, Jesus is really the answer. He’s the way.’ I fell to the ground crying profusely, and I just felt like everything shifted. Everything shifted. I just knew that it was Jesus Christ. When I encountered that light, that love, that peace, everything shifted. The desires of my heart literally changed,” he recalled.

Richard gave up all of his witchcraft supplies and gave his life to God. He began attending church and telling Carleen and everyone else around him about his testimony.

Not long after, Carleen dedicated her life to Jesus, too.

Richard is now a street preacher and pastor who encourages everyone to discover their purpose in a loving connection with God.

Influencer Shares Testimony Of Freedom From Porn Addiction And Depression

A social media influencer shared her testimony of freedom from porn addiction and depression, hoping it would encourage others to call upon the name of Jesus.

Testimony of Freedom

Yamilexis Fernandez grew up in a neighborhood deeply involved in Santeria, an occult religion. As a result, she knew about witchcraft and occult practices since she was young. When her mom and dad separated, her mom took her and her younger sister to America. They lived with her stepdad who molested her when her mom was not around.

Her stepdad got more violent as he continued to drown himself in alcohol. Soon, they eventually moved out to a new beginning. But Yamilexis was still suffering from depression and severe anxiety. It came to a point when she did not know what to do but to call on Jesus. She learned about Jesus in a youth group before but did not believe in Him. However this time, she was desperate.

Freedom from Porn Addiction and Depression

As she was shaking and crying one night, she called out the name of Jesus. She believed that was the moment when she invited Jesus into her life. Soon, Yamilexis carried the burden as the eldest child so she worked hard to provide for her family. She started a business that introduced her to Jesus more. She joined Christian conferences and gatherings until one day, she finally surrendered her life to the Lord.

Since then, she has become active in ministry and discipleship. She served the church and the Lord. But Yamilexis confessed that she was still struggling with porn addiction and depression. Despite her involvement in church, she was still under bondage. Having enough, Yamilexis cried out to God to break her free. She recalled praying to God, “God, I know You want to use me in ministry. I know You have this calling on my life but I’m struggling so bad. I need you to help me break free from these bondages.”

After praying, she got up and felt lighter. God answered her prayer. Today, Yamilexis uses her social media as a platform to share her testimony and encourage others to Christ.

Set Free From Drug Addiction And Gang Lifestyle

Temitópé Taiwo, a pastor at Saint Church, recently shared his testimony about how God set him free from drug addiction and gang lifestyle.

His Story

Temitópé’s story is mostly centered on his recovery from drug addiction and involvement in a gang. God has saved him from situations where many others he knew did not survive. But he realized something very important.

“So I kind of wear it as a badge of honor, this freedom thing,” he said. “But it was a season where I found myself really tempted and struggling again with some of… I guess the vices and the things that I thought I’d completely heal from.”

He admitted that it was always difficult to struggle with something you’ve worn as a badge of honor, knowing God had taken you from it.

Set Free From Drug Addiction And Gang Lifestyle

Temitópé also shared that there was a period when he was depressed and drank more than he should. He found himself enticed to smoke and engage in past behaviors.

“I felt real distant. I felt like I couldn’t pray, I didn’t want to go to church because it felt like everything had built my Christianity up until that point felt like it was crumbling,” he said.

But in that moment God asked him, “How much do you think I won on the cross? How much do you think my sacrifice covered? Only when your things are good? Or is it in these moments?”

Set Free From Drug Addiction And No Condemnation

Temitópé remembered Romans 8:1 saying, “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” (NIV)

When he realized that he was in Jesus, the feeling of condemnation left. God told him that condemnation and guilt weren’t his to hang on to. It was as if God was saying, “If you believe what I did on the cross and with my life is true, then hand it over to me. Leave all these things you’re struggling with at the foot of the cross.”

“I did and I got a real sense of freedom and you know days are still hard. There are still trials and temptations but the fact that it’s not on me to be perfect. But it’s on me just receiving what’s already been done in Christ for me is where my hope is,” Temitópé concluded.

Priscilla Shirer Encourages Christians To Stop Thinking Like A Slave

Priscilla Shirer shares a powerful reminder for all believers: stop thinking like a slave and start acting like a freed child of God.

The Christian actress and motivational speaker was invited to Social Dallas Church last weekend, where she delivered a sermon that reminded Christians about their identity in God.

Priscilla referred to the Israelites and their journey in the wilderness as the basis for her message. According to the 48-year-old preacher, after living under the rule of Pharaoh in Egypt for 400 years, the children of Israel had developed a mindset and perspective of a slave.

When God delivered them from slavery, He had to teach them to no longer think and act like slaves. The journey of the Israelites to the promised land took 40 years because God was addressing their identity.

Priscilla expressed, “Those 40 years were about their identity in the wilderness. They had been freed from Egypt, but Egypt needed to be detached from them.”

Continuing her sermon, she questioned the significance of being legally free while still living like a slave. She emphasized the need to break free from thinking, operating, deciding, reacting, and relating to others as if one was not truly free.

“Making decisions out of scarcity, lack, fear, and intimidation. Therefore, Yahweh spends 40 years recalibrating their identity,” Priscilla explained.

She further shared God’s deep passion for teaching His children about their true identity. With conviction, she stated, “God says to them, ‘You are not like this. You are who I say you are.'”

Jesus’ finished work

And so, this points to what Jesus has done for everyone. He has paid for our freedom so that nothing can hold us back from fulfilling what God destined us to have, and that is abundant life.

Today, God has made us free in Christ. So, let us start acting like the child who God says we are. We are freed, redeemed, and loved.

Man Testified About How God Set Him Free From Drugs And Witchcraft

Jeremy Bradshaw shared his testimony about how God set him free from drugs and witchcraft.

His Story

Jeremy felt rejected even before he was born. At first, his dad didn’t believe that Jeremy was his child.

His father chose his girlfriend over Jeremy and his mom.

“Because of that, he was never in my life. I was born without him, and it really damaged me,” he said.

Jeremy grew up feeling alone, even though he wasn’t necessarily alone, and he felt it all the time.

Then he discovered that his grandmother was practicing witchcraft.

“It just led to more darkness filling my heart and eventually led me into doing heavy drugs like marijuana and then into shrooms, eventually leading to meth and heroin,” he said.

But his longing wasn’t filled. And so, there were times where he almost called upon spirits to fill him up in some way.

In the year 2013, Jeremy was drug-ridden. He said, “I’m angry; I’m filled with all this darkness and this desire to hurt people and such.”

God Set Him Free From Drugs And Family Witchcraft

He added, “And my mom had actually taken me to a hospital because I was just not myself. I was just freaking out, screaming, and just pretty much losing my mind,” he said.

Jeremy was brought to a mental hospital. A psychiatrist deemed it unsafe for him to be out. So, he was put in a 5150 hold, which basically means danger to himself or danger to society. He stayed there for a week.

A couple months later, he was working at Chipotle, and a workmate constantly shared Jesus with him.

“I didn’t believe in God,” Jeremy said.

When his workmate asked for a ride back home because her car malfunctioned, God encountered Jeremy.

“All of a sudden, I just knew in my heart that I wanted to give my heart and my life over to the Lord. I went through the repentance prayer and the sinner’s prayer,” he said.

The Encounter

He added, “And I just repented of my ways and asked the Lord to come and live in my heart. It was at that moment that I experienced him for the first time.”

One time, Jeremy was reading the Bible while smoking a joint. He remembered the Lord’s voice so clearly that it spoke out to him and said, “Jeremy, you will never be able to do what I’ve called you to do while smoking weed.””

Jeremy decided to stop and was committed to the church ministry. He joined the Hungry Gen church and was never the same.

He was delivered, too. “All these things that had been torturing me finally got yanked out of me. And I’m finally delivered. I remember sitting there, and I was crying so heavily because I was like, “I’m finally free! This is the moment I’ve been waiting for and praying for my entire life. I couldn’t stop crying, and I was just so joyful because it was so surreal. I finally got to that point, like I’m free,” he said.

Two Issues That Hinder Freedom According To Jessica Koulianos

Jessica Koulianos, Pastor Michael’s wife at Jesus Image Church, shares two issues that can hinder freedom for a Christian.

Jess is not a stranger to these issues. Having Benny Hinn as a father, she grew up familiar with the working of the Holy Spirit. And she has seen how the Holy Spirit brings forth freedom for the people. But some Christians still don’t receive them. So, Jess imparts knowledge that will help believers remove the things that hinder freedom.

According to her, there are two issues that keep freedom. And they are intimacy issue and the fear of the Lord issue.

She shared, “Why can’t I get free? A few things – lack of fellowship with Jesus. It’s an intimacy issue.”

“You’re trying to fill that void in your heart with other things: fake intimacy, fake satisfaction. And you’re filling it with those things because you feel like that’s going to satisfy your heart.”

Jessica highlighted that the only One who can satisfy is Jesus.

“You can get that [heart] filled in Jesus. Jesus alone. Everything else is counterfeit. It’s only temporary satisfaction. It’s not going to fill that void in your heart,” she continued.

Fear of the Lord

Then, aside from the intimacy issue, Jessica added that the other thing that can hinder total freedom is the lack of fear of the Lord.

She said, “When you’re aware of Jesus, when you’re aware of the Holy Spirit, you can’t even watch the things you used to watch. You can’t talk the way you used to talk. You can’t even think the things you used to without getting that conviction of the Holy Spirit.”

Jessica pointed out that the fear of the Lord keeps Christians away from slander, gossip, pride, and all other horrible things. “We all need to return to the fear of God!”
