It is for freedom you’ve been set free is a promise in Galatians 5:1, but what does that actually mean?! I’ve heard this verses many times and it’s kind of confusing. I couldn’t wrap my brain around using a word to describe the same word as the action happening. When I run into roadblocks like this I like to ask (Matthew 7:7) the Holy Spirit for help and He showed up big time!
You’ve Been Set Free
Galatians 5:1 NIV – “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.”
Jesus died in your place so that you could walk in freedom every day of your life. We must ask ourselves, “Am I walking in freedom or have I fallen into the slave mentality of the world?” If your answer is the latter, don’t beat yourself up. We all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23). But we don’t have to stay there!
You’ve been set free – that’s the truth! However, it is your choice if you choose to walk in the freedom that is provided in Christ. Many times the biggest things that hold us back are our beliefs about ourselves, God or others.
You’ve been set free, but if you aren’t walking in freedom take some time to reflect or journal your answers the to questions below. Remember, nothing can separate you from the love of Christ (Romans 8:35-39) and because of His love you’ve been set free!
Reflect
- What is holding you back from the freedom you have in Christ?
- What is one thing you can do to take a step towards freedom today?
- Do you have an limiting beliefs about yourself, God, or others that are keeping you bound?
- Is there anyone you need to forgive in order to step into freedom?
- How do you practice gratitude for what Christ has done for you?
- What could you do moving forward to stay thankful?
