Frontliners are working around the clock so essential services, including food deliveries, will continue amid the stay-at-home order. Apparently, this food delivery man couldn’t take time to celebrate his birthday due to his busy job. But a cake bought by a customer moved him to tears.
Delivery man in China
The COVID-19 pandemic made a food delivery man in Wuhan, China very busy from all the orders. He couldn’t even spare a moment to celebrate his birthday. But an anonymous customer decided to offer a kind gesture to the delivery man. Without knowing it was his birthday, the customer ordered a cake for the man.
Oblivious to the customer’s actions, the delivery man went to the bakery to collect the cake as instructed. The cashier, who shared this story to the social media, then told him that the cake is actually a gift from the customer for him. The situation puzzled him and he questioned the cashier many times.

“He kept asking if someone really bought the cake for him, and I told him each time, yes. Someone bought the cake for you,” the cashier recalled.
The customer noted on the order, “I ordered one extra piece for the food delivery man. Please remember to eat on time.”
A special birthday
The thoughtfulness of the customer overwhelmed the delivery man. He took his gift and left the bakery before he sat down by the street side. He broke down in tears as he blew out his birthday candle, wishing himself a happy birthday.
The video was uploaded onto Weibo, a Chinese social media platform. It went viral and the sweet gesture of the customer touched many.
This also helps us remember to pray for all frontliners – the healthcare workers, the police and soldiers, delivery men, bankers, grocery store’s cashiers, and many others who sacrifice and expose themselves to risk while we stay indoors.
