Bible student and digital creator Love Nzeadu shares her six strategies for dealing with a wandering mind during prayer.
Dealing With Wandering Mind
Prayer is essential in a Christian’s walk with God. Through prayer, believers receive instructions, guidance, wisdom, and revelations from the Holy Spirit. That is why maintaining a focused mind is crucial. Christian blogger Love Nzeadu connects with everyone else. Therefore, she shared strategies that helped her deal with a wandering mind during prayer, hoping they would benefit others too.
According to Love, one tactic is to select a specific time and location. She recommends choosing a place where distractions are minimal. Typically, she opts for her room or a secluded spot where she can pray undisturbed. Similarly, she advises praying early in the morning or late in the evening.
Another strategy is to switch off your mobile phones. Love shared, “I switch off all my devices or put them on DND to avoid the temptation of picking calls, responding to messages, or checking notifications.”
Prayer Time
Additionally, maintain a consistent prayer routine and train yourself to adhere to it. “Consistent routine helps you focus and concentrate more on what you are doing,” she said. “When you are consistent with the same prayer schedule, you train your body to get used to doing the same thing at the same time every day. Your body begins to shut down once it’s time for prayer. I have also discovered that the secret of consistency in prayer is to be consistent.”
The fourth strategy Love shared is “praying with the Word.” She mentioned that praying with the Word not only helps focus your mind during prayer but also strengthens your faith. The next strategy involves creating a mental picture of your desired answer.
“I pray with a clear picture of my expectation or my answer,” she said. “Our mind works with images. It’s important you fill your mind with the right image so it does not focus on any random image.”
Lastly, avoid rushing into prayer. Love shared that before she begins her prayer time, she “primes her heart.”
” So 10-15 mins before my prayer time, I shutdown every other thing I’m doing. I gather my spirit and start focusing my thoughts on the Lord. I have discovered that rushing into prayers is one of the major causes of mind wandering during prayer. When you rush into prayers, your mind is still trying to process thoughts and prior events and so the first 30mins you are struggling with thoughts of what happened earlier.”
Hopefully, Love’s strategies will assist you in focusing your mind during prayer time.
