According to actress and producer Roma Downey, making films that tell the story of Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection is not easy. She shared the experience in a recent interview.
Filming Crucifixion And Resurrection
After creating the “three crucifixions, two resurrections” film about Jesus’ life, Roma Downey made history as a producer. She also produced the Christian film series “The Bible,” “A.D,” and “Son of God” with her husband, Mark Burnett. Because of her expertise, the actress brought to life the Bible’s most important real-life events on the silver screen.

The Christian producer was noticed in 1994 after her CBS show “Touched By an Angel” became a hit for years. In an interview, Roma revealed the weight of filming the scene when Jesus was crucified on the cross.
“There were certain challenges you can imagine in the filming of a crucifixion scene,” she said. “Starting simply with the demand of safety. Because we have to bolt a cross to the ground, we have to make sure it’s secure.”

A Privilege
According to Roma, the actor’s safety is a priority and vital. Also, they have to be mindful of the perfect weather when shooting the scene.
“The logistical challenges of that are many, to say the least,” the actress added. “While it’s just an actor and it’s pretend, it’s very emotional and a disturbing series of scenes to have to put together and film.”
Then she continued, “But thankfully, for us, in our faith, we know that it wasn’t just nails that held Jesus to the cross — it was love, and on the third day, He rose.”
For Roma, turning Jesus’ great story into a film is a “profound privilege.” And what motivates her to keep creating these films is the people who would watch them.
“These films and movies are excellent opportunities for Christians to be visually reminded of Christ’s sacrifice,” she stressed. “And for non-believers to be introduced to the Gospel.”
