On January 10, Felisberto Sampaio, pastor of the Assembly of God Church in Quixaba, Paraiba, and his family were on an outing at Camacari Beah when the heartbreaking news happened. Felisberto and his wife Inalda were on the shore when they spotted their 13-year-old son Ian struggling in the waters.
Without any second thought, they went into the ocean to try to save their son. However, they failed to reach their son. Thankfully, a fisherman and another family were nearby and rescued Ian. Though they were able to also pull the couple out from the waters, they were already unresponsive.

The fire department quickly came to help revive the couple, but sadly, they weren’t able to save them. Paramedics declared their death at the scene. According to police reports, the incident happened at around 10 AM. The 13-year-old Ian is safe and didn’t suffer any serious injuries.
Felisberto was a pastor in his church for over 12 years. Church members and leaders are mourning the couple’s death.
“I know that the circumstances are painful and difficult for us to understand. Only eternity will explain all the mysteries of life,” pastor Leonardo Meneses said in an interview.
One of the Sampaios’ neighbors also expressed their grief on their social media.
“A servant couple of God, a true example of Christians who were loved and cherished by all those they lived with. MAY GOD OF INFINITE MERCY RECEIVE THEM IN THE KINGDOM OF HIS GLORY AND MAY THEY REST IN PEACE,” the neighbor wrote in a Facebook post.
Let us pray for peace and comfort for the grieving family of the late couple.
