Fear is a real thing. It’s also one of the most prevalent tactics of the enemy. There are so many different ways that he tries to derail believers from living out the abundant life we’ve been given. Anxiety, doubt, shame, and guilt are just a few of the different forms of fear that we are often bombarded with.
BUT in Christ we do not have to be afraid. We are promised that “perfect love drives out fear” (1 John 4:18). Let’s see what else the Word of God has to say about fear…
What Do The Psalms Say About Fear
The psalms are so helpful because often times we see the writer pouring out their raw emotions. Let’s look at Psalm 27.
Psalm 27:1-3,
1 The Lord is my light and my salvation—
whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life—
of whom shall I be afraid?
2 When the wicked advance against me
to devour[a] me,
it is my enemies and my foes
who will stumble and fall.
3 Though an army besiege me,
my heart will not fear;
though war break out against me,
even then I will be confident.
Isn’t it encouraging to know that when the Lord is your salvation and stronghold there is nothing to fear?!
Reflect with the Holy Spirit
- What am I afraid of?
- How can I surrender those fears to the Lord?
- Where have I made something other than the Lord my stronghold?
- How can I exchange the false strongholds and sense of security?
- Who am I afraid of? Why?
- What do I need to forgive them for so that I can close that door?
- How can I actively invite God’s love into my life?
