While preaching at a church in Harrow England GOD TV‘s Regional Director for Sri Lanka met a couple, Uschi Perera and her husband Nelanka. While conversing over dinner one evening they mentions a first-of-its-kind fashion show what was scheduled to show case in London. The fashion show was featuring all Ski Lankan designers, stylist and models.
The thought of the fashion show was exciting, as it would create an opportunity to highlight the humanitarian needs of our motherland Sri Lanka. Additionally, it would allow GOD TV to participate in the transformation of lives. The goal of the fashion show would be to help the many Sri Lankans that are facing daunting challenges. Thus, “Shades of Ceylon”; Fashion with a Cause was born.
Finding a cause
After returning to Sri Lanka research led us to ‘CKD’, commonly known as Chronic Kidney Disease. Chronic Kidney Disease is mainly caused by drinking unfiltered ground water, as well as snake bites, both of which damages the kidneys. There was a dire need for additional dialysis machines and the opportunity to raise funds through the fashion show seemed to be a perfect fit.
The follow week a meeting was set up with the board of the government hospital that had recently opened in the world-renowned hill country town of Nuwara Eliya. This area is famous for high quality tea production and the hospital was a modern facility, however, budgetary constraints limited the Nephrology Unit. The unit only had two machines and was in need of at least six.
Within days, the Visiting Consultant produced a video to promote the event and for funding the dialysis machine. The video made a major impact on social media. Half the funds came in before the show!
The fashion show
The fashion show met every expectation of those in attendance. The impact touched many hearts. Additionally, support began to come in to help the Sri Lankan hospital. The success of the show had a very positive impact in Sri Lanka. The response from our GOD TV partners was overwhelming. In three weeks, by the grace of our Lord, we were able to pay for a state-of-the-art dialysis machine!
The Visiting Consultant called share that the first patient received dialysis with the new machine on the 29th of November 2019. It also happened to be his birthday! God is good!

In conclusion, GOD TV has always focused on impacting and transforming lives. GOD TV’s commitment has been the main reason for GOD TV partners to continuously support the ministry. The apostle Paul states in Romans 10;15 “And how shall they preach, except they be sent? As it is written, how beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!”
Fashion with a Cause broke new ground for GOD TV in London England and Sri Lanka. The funds raised are now saving the lives of patients in Sir Lanka. As a the GOD TV family, we are creating a ripple affect of light that is piercing the darkness.
