The faith-based, animated film “David” has broken the “The Chosen” crowdfunding record, making it the “largest audience-funded production in history.”
Faith-based animated film, David
It has raised over $49 million, with a goal of $60 million by the end of this month. Angel Studios, the production team behind The Chosen and David, announced the news on its Facebook page. They shared, “DAVID is now the #1 largest audience-funded production in history, surpassing even The Chosen in investments!”
“David” will be a family-friendly film “with exceptional quality on par with Disney or Pixar productions.” They aim for the film to be “the most influential biblical animated movie since Dreamwork’s Prince of Egypt.”
Moreover, they believe that “David” will appeal to the global audience, “especially those outside of the religious sphere.”
The director Phil Cunningham told Christian Headlines, “We really believe that David is one of the few biblical stories that can go beyond the traditional faith audience.”
“So we want to make this movie in a way that the Christian audience absolutely loves and is so glad that the story that they love has been told the way that we tell it. But can we also tell the story in a way that is accessible and invites people who wouldn’t necessarily be attracted to the Bible very often, and they can come and get something out of it to be challenged and inspired?”
Also, the animated movie will have a musical theme, portraying the nature of the character as a musician.
“David wrote so much music,” Phil added. “He was an artist, he was a musician. Integrating music into the story for us is not challenging. It’s natural. It almost feels like the only way to tell the story.”
The release of the much-anticipated movie has not yet been announced. But surely, it will become another Christian movie that will hit the box office.
