The story of the woman who touched the edge of Jesus’ garment in Luke 8 has been explained by a Bible scholar.
Luke 8: Woman Touching Jesus’ Garment
Luke 8: 43 -48 tells the story of a woman who has been bleeding for 12 years. She miraculously received healing after touching the hem of Jesus’ garment. Though it clearly teaches us about the faith of the woman and the power of Jesus Christ, the historical context of this story reveals more about Jesus.
“People think she just touched the bottom of the garment, no, she touched what’s known as the tzitzit. Which is the ritual fringes that were commanded in the book of Numbers to be placed on. Every four-cornered garment needed to have them. They were meant to be a reminder of the 613 commandments… But what’s also interesting is one of the reasons that they were given is because the children of Israel saw the giants in the land and they strayed after their own eyes. And these were meant to say, ‘Look, every time you look at them, you never have to fear or lose faith, but you’re to trust the Lord and follow Him and be faithful to His commandment.'”

Fulfillment of a prophecy
The Hebrew word of Tzitzit means “not to stray after your own heart.” Luke 8 teaches us not to be afraid of the giants we face in life, but to trust the Lord. The story is also a fulfillment of a prophecy in Malachi 4.
“What’s most significant about her grabbing the tzitzit of the garment is that it’s actually a fulfillment of a Messianic prophecy. Because it says, ‘The Son of righteousness will rise with healing in His wings.'”
The Hebrew word for wings is “kanpha” which is the same word to denote the four corners of the garment.
“When she touches the hem of His garment, obviously she finds a fulfillment of that verse in His life because she finds healing that’s in Him and she’s transformed.”
