Do Not Be Afraid…Surrender Brings Life

Welcome to day 17 of our chapter-by-chapter walk through the Gospel of Luke, all as part of this December series Do Not Be Afraid. You know, there’s a wonderful line in Luke chapter 17. It’s hard to read, but when we realize God always has good things in store, when Jesus says, “If you try to preserve your life, you’ll lose it. Yet, if you have the courage to lose your life, you will preserve it.”

You know, there was a season in Patricia and my life when we knew that we had to move, we had to change what we were doing, and we had to give up our careers. We had that sense from heaven, that the Father was asking us to lay down something. And I was in a conference, it was a wonderful conference with all your favorite GOD TV speakers, and one of them said this incredible line, “You’ve got to give up to go up.” And so we went back to where we were living at the time, and we put our house on the market. We sold all our furniture, we gave notice for our careers. And that was the thing that allowed us, with just a couple of boxes, to come back to the UK and to start volunteering with GOD TV.

You know, if I could talk to the younger version of myself, I’d say, “You know, this scripture is true. If you try and preserve what you’ve got, it’ll go. But if you let it go, the Lord will preserve it.”  If He’s not just Savior, if He’s Lord, then let Him rule in your life. Let Him be Lord. And when He asks you to give something up, whether it be a relationship, or a job situation, perhaps it’s finances that He’s asking you to sow into the Gospel. If we will, rather than preserving it and holding it tight, if we will let it go, then He has a wonderful, extraordinary way of preserving it.

If I could look back at that younger man and give him a word of encouragement, I’d say that the Gospel is true. If I could let him in some extraordinary way, see where we are now, maybe a few more gray hairs than what I had back then, but understand how it all worked out. Perhaps when Jesus said, that if you preserve your life, you’ll lose it, but if you lose your life in Him, it will be preserved. Have courage today. Do not be afraid. Let the Lord be Lord of your life today and lead you to His abundance, which may appear that the first thing you do is just let it go.

Do Not Be Afraid…Jesus’ Arms Are Open Wide

So in today’s reading we have that wonderful remembrance of Jesus.  He’s talking to His friends and others and says, “Do you know in the Kingdom of heaven, if one sheep leaves the fold, the shepherd goes after the one sheep, leaving the 99. And when he comes back with that sheep over his shoulder, he gathers his friend and rejoices. There’s a party.”  And then Jesus said, “Do you know there is a party in heaven when even one sinner repents than over the 99 that didn’t need to?”

Well of course, I’m not sure there are 99 that didn’t need to. I think we all need to. But in heaven’s economy, in the economy of the new Kingdom of God, Jesus declares this great truth, that He, as the Great Shepherd of the sheep, will go after us. Even if we’re lost, even if we’re lost in sin, even if we do not know up from down, He will come and find us. And when He has found us, He will rejoice. Indeed, all of heaven will rejoice over us.

So as we go through this season of reading through the Gospel of Luke, as part of our Do Not Be Afraid time, maybe we should remember that no matter what is going on in our lives, that great truth of scripture that He promised never to leave us nor forsake us, indeed, as we come up to this season of Christmas, Emmanuel God with us.

If you feel lost today, cry out to the Shepherd, because He will surely find you. And once He has found you, once He has brought you to Himself, once He has placed Himself close to you, there will be a season of rejoicing in heaven that you too will hear. So please don’t be afraid. Call on the Shepherd and let us all rejoice when you are found in Him.

No, you can’t take anything with you to heaven. You can’t take your car, you can’t take your house. You can’t take that new computer gizmo that you got for Christmas to heaven. But there is one thing you actually can take to heaven: souls, people, human beings, by reaching them with the Gospel of Jesus. That’s all we care about here at GOD TV. We want to bring as many souls with us to heaven, to present them to Jesus as we can. And you can, too, by joining with us, giving a generous gift.

Do Not Be Afraid…You Can Be Made Whole In Christ

Do not be afraid, for you can be made whole in Jesus Christ.  Today’s reading is from Luke 13, and it’s the story about the lady who had been crippled by an evil spirit for 18 years. Now, picture this: Jesus was there in the Synagogue preaching a word. We don’t know how many people were there, but let’s say the room was full. Then all of a sudden, He stops because He sees this lady who has been crippled by this evil spirit for 18 years.  He goes up to her and He says, “Dear woman, you are healed of your sickness,”  and she was completely healed and restored; made whole by the Lord Jesus Christ.

What I find so wonderful about that, is thatJesus is never, ever too busy, too wrapped up in what He’s doing to focus in on the one. He is concerned about our small needs, and He is concerned about our big needs. He will come to our side and pick us up just as He did, “Dear woman, you are healed and made whole.”

Maybe like this woman, you feel bent over with the burden and the stress that this year or these last few years have caused you. But you can come to the Lord, you can give Him your burdens and He will take them from you so that you can walk straight again.

I want to encourage you today, if there are burdens and heaviness on your back that you have been carrying, I just want to encourage you and pray with you right now, that they be lifted off in Jesus’ Name, that you may be whole.

Yes, Lord, we thank you that you are our Healer. We thank you, Lord, that you are our eternal Savior, the Messiah, Emmanuel God with us. Lord Jesus, I pray right now for all of the people watching today, that if they’re carrying burdens, Father, if they are carrying sickness or illness or crippled by evil spirits, I pray right now in Jesus’ name that they would be lifted off of them and that they would be made whole.  That they would be walking straight again with you. So I just pray right now that you be healed in the Name of the Almighty Jesus Christ. Amen.

Friend, there’s a heart, there’s a life, there’s a person, there’s a real person that needs to hear the good news of Jesus Christ at this very moment. Today, I appeal to you to join with us and become a media missionary. Sow financially into GOD TV,  and let’s take this good news of Jesus to the ends of the earth. Through your giving, through your prayer, through your support, this world is going to be changed and the good news of Jesus Christ is going to be heard around the world. God bless you.

Do Not Be Afraid…You Have Access To Heaven On Earth

“So He said to them, ‘When you pray, say, ‘our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your Kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us day by day our daily bread and forgive us our sins. For we also forgive everyone who’s indebted to us. And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one'” (Luke chapter 11:2-4).

This passage ought to be one of the most endearing words of Jesus. It’s so personal, direct, and powerful. It really condenses the core of the Gospel. I remember teaching my children to talk when they were toddlers. The first thing we tend to teach them is our identity as parents. We wait for them to call us as ‘Mama’ or ‘Papa’. That just establishes the relationship we share with them. We eagerly wait and cherish that moment when that happens.

The passage I read reinforces two things. Love God and love your neighbor. God is teaching us to address Him as Father. What an incredible privilege that is for us. We often take this for granted. The close and personal relationship we can share with our Savior. No other religion can boast of this privilege. It just breaks down all the barriers and establishes a very close and powerful relationship. It reveals that God is for us. He’s generous and He’s gracious, and He’s teaching us to pray this prayer every day.

As we grow older, it’s hard for us to live for the day. We prefer the long-term view of things; secure everything for the future. But here, God says to take each day at a time, not just the provision, but our relationship with Him. We need to redefine our relationship with Him every day and receive His grace.

Friends, I just want to encourage you, if you are going through a difficult time or facing fear of an uncertain future, just stop everything and say the prayer. Take your time and say it, “Our Father in heaven.”  Relish that relationship. Acknowledge that we need His grace every day. Make an effort to forgive others. Just do it day after day, not as a ritual, but make it relational. Remember, you have access to heaven on earth. Your heavenly Father is just a prayer away.

Do Not Be Afraid…Jesus Wants To Be With You

Today’s reading is from Luke 10:38-42, and we have a scenario of Mary and Martha and Jesus. Now, Martha, she’s the busy one. She’s cooking dinner and trying to make sure everything is ready for dinner. Mary, on the other hand, is at the feet of Jesus and she’s listening to Him. She’s spending time with Him. She’s very innate about what He is saying and how it can apply to her life. Martha, on the other hand, is being very busy because dinner needs to be prepared.

Now, Martha comes to Jesus and says, “Jesus, my sister Mary, she should be helping me. Why isn’t she helping me?”  Because Martha’s priorities are a little different than Mary’s at the time.  Jesus tells Martha, He says, “Martha, you worry about things that you shouldn’t worry about. In fact, Mary has chosen the better thing at this time.”

So what’s that better thing? Spending time with Jesus. Now, here’s what the text doesn’t tell us. It’s not saying that we should not work and that we should just spend time with Jesus all the time. What it is telling us is that there is a time that you and I need to invest in our relationship with Jesus. Whether it’s at church, our Bible, reading, prayer time, helping somebody out, all of those things are very important to Jesus. But we also know that we have to eat dinner, right? So somebody has to prepare it. So I want to encourage you today to take time and spend time with Jesus. You will be a different person because of it.

Friend, there’s a heart, there’s a life, there’s a person, there’s a real person that needs to hear the good news of Jesus Christ at this very moment.  Today, I appeal to you to join with us and become a media missionary. Sow financially into GOD TV,  and let’s take this good news of Jesus to the ends of the earth. Do Not Be Afraid…Jesus Brings Peace To The Storms Of Life

Friend, today is December 8th, and it’s a great day to be alive!  It’s a cold day in Oslo, Norway, and it’s evening and just good to be alive. I have good news for you! You don’t have to fear anything. Don’t be afraid!

Listen to this reading from Luke 8:22-26, a very powerful, powerful teaching. It says, “One day Jesus said to His disciples, ‘Let’s go over the lake to the other side. So they got into a boat and set out. As they sailed, He fell asleep. A squall came down on the lake so that the boat was being swamped, and they were in great danger. The disciples went and woke Him saying, ‘Master, master, we’re going to drown!’  He got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waters. The storm subsided and all was calm. ‘Where is your faith?’ He asked His disciples.  In fear and amazement, they asked one another, ‘Who is this? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey Him.'”

Friend, as Jesus is in the world, so are we. When you face a storm or you face difficulties, you have been given an incredible authority. The same power that raised Jesus from the dead lives within you. All you have to do is command the situation to be calm.

So you have nothing to fear, nothing to worry about, but you, today, can take charge of your situation. So let me encourage you from this place today to take the word of authority and use it as you should. I’ll see you soon.

Do Not Be Afraid…Jesus Is Calling You

Do not be afraid, I have good news! And it’s that Jesus is calling you to follow Him. I wanna quote out of Luke 5:9-11. It says, “For he and all his companions were astonished at the catch of fish they had taken. And so were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, Simon’s partners. Then Jesus said to Simon, ‘Don’t be afraid. From now on you will fish for people.’  So they pulled their boats up on the shore, left everything, and followed Him.”

I’m here today to tell you that not only did Jesus call the disciples, (did He call the special speakers and the special prophets and the special?) No, He called you and He called me. He called all of us. And I know sometimes that can be a little scary, right? To think, to step out in that. And we’re doing this whole Christmas season based off of, do not be afraid, I have good news. And I just kind of wanna touch on that a little bit, because fear is something that can hold us back. And I wanna encourage you, that sometimes being brave is just doing things afraid and stepping out. And it’s when we step out into our calling, that fear starts to break off and the light starts to shine through.

And think about it. Jesus, He didn’t throw the disciples into the deep end starting off. No. He said, “Hey, put your net on the other side.”  And that that was something simple. And then He said, “Come follow me.” Now, it was big. They did give up everything to follow Him, but He taught them along the way and He called them out along the way.

And so I wanna encourage you, take a look today at the things that you’ve let fear hold you back from. It might be fear of not having enough time in your day to read the word. Maybe wake up a little earlier. It might be a fear of praying for people, or of sharing the gospel with a friend or a coworker. I wanna encourage you to take the little things, just take a little step today.

Lord, I thank you from my friends. I thank you for everyone that you have called to yourself, that you’ve called people to be a light for you. Not just a special one or two or three, but everyone. And so I just pray right now that fear is broken off, and people walk in freedom and walk in light. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Do Not Be Afraid…You Can Find Joy In Jesus

Do not be afraid, for I have good news. Today’s scripture from Luke 2 is all about the shepherds in the field when the angel appeared to them. But let’s just think about that for a moment. What must the shepherds have been thinking at that time? There they were, the Bible tells us, just settling down for their night shift, ready to take care of the sheep across the night. A job they’ve probably done for tens of hundreds of days before, every night being the same, watching their sheep in the calm and peace and still of the night. Then all of a sudden, an angel appeared, a mighty angel of the Lord. And the Bible tells us they were terrified. Well, wouldn’t you be?

How would you feel right now if a mighty angel turned up to you as you were doing the washing up, as you were preparing the Christmas meal? Wouldn’t it strike fear into our hearts to start with? But this is what the angel encouraged them with. The angel turned to them and said, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all people. The Savior, yes, the Messiah has been born to us, and you’ll recognize him by this sign. You’ll find a baby wrapped snugly in strips of cloth, lying in a manger in Bethlehem.” Wow, what a promise that they had received into their hands! A baby had been born; the Messiah that they had been waiting for. And then the Bible tells us a whole host of angels appeared and they rejoice, “Glory be to God on the highest!”  What a sight those shepherds were blessed with that night.  And then it tells us that they left their night shift, they left the sheep, and they ran to Bethlehem to see if it was true. And when they got there, they found it just as the angel of the Lord had said. There, in a manger in Bethlehem, the Messiah, a baby had been born unto them.

Maybe God has been speaking something into your life. Maybe there’s a promise there. Maybe you feel that God has given you something that you are holding onto. I wanna encourage you this coming year. Just run with it. Go and see what the Lord has prepared for you in advance. Let your heart be filled with joy. For the Lord came to the earth to bring us joy.

Do Not Be Afraid…God Works Miracles

Greetings around the world, my friend. It’s a cold 1st of December today and it’s a good day to be alive!  My name is Edward John Hughes, and I have the privilege of being the Nordic Regional Director for GOD TV.   And GOD TV family, you are absolutely awesome. I believe we’ve seen nothing yet of what God is about to do in our lives. I have a word for you today just to encourage you.

There’s no reason for you to be afraid. You have nothing to fear, because God is with you. Listen to this story from Luke chapter 1, and you know it so well. The angel Gabriel came to Mary and greeted her, when he was about to tell her that she would be pregnant with the Lord Jesus Christ. And this is what it says in verses 29-31. It reads, “The angel went to her and said, ‘Greetings, you who are highly favored, the Lord is with you.’  Mary was greatly astonished at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. But the angel said to her, ‘Do not be afraid, Mary.  You have found favor with God.'”

Now, what is favor? Why is it that you don’t have to fear anything? Well, listen very carefully. Because the Lord is with you, you are favored. Did you know that? Just because the Lord is with me, I am favored and you are favored. And here’s the beautiful thing: you may not have thought about this, but you can grow in favor just like the little child was about to grow inside of Mary’s womb. You know, Jesus being conceived by the Spirit and given birth to by God as His Father, through the virgin Mary, the baby grew in the womb. And it says that Jesus, when He was born, grew in stature and in favor with God. You and I can grow in favor. The more you walk with the Lord, the more favored you’d be. The more you focus on Him and His love for you, the more the favor will begin to grow within you.

So friend, let me just encourage you today and let you know that you are highly favored. Why are you afraid? What are you afraid of? The Lord is with you. And He says, “I’ll never leave you nor forsake you. I’m with you always, even to the ends of the age.”  So friend, listen, as we approach Christmas and the pressures might come on, you might have a lot of things you need to do, many people to greet, many gifts to buy. And fear can easily grip you if you start thinking about all that needs to be done. But let me just say to you today, God is with you, therefore you are highly favored.

And you know what it says, in the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. Now, listen, Proverbs chapter 3 says, “Take my words, bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart. And you will win favor in the sight of God and man.”

If you take your faith in Jesus Christ and believe with all your heart that He is with you, you will walk in extreme favor. And I must say, as I’ve been walking through my life, the one thing I even told my mom the other day, I said, “Mom, the only thing I can say for certain is this: I’ve been very highly favored after I met Jesus Christ as my Lord.”  Friend, don’t be afraid. You are highly favored. I’ll talk to you soon again. But until next time, be blessed and walk in His favor.

Fear Can Hinder You From Entering God’s Presence

Fear is a very powerful tool of the enemy to hinder us from entering into God’s presence and moving forward to His promises.

Chantal Whites

Chantal Whites of Amazing Grace Ministries shares a word of encouragement for us today. The associate pastor is encouraging everyone to not be afraid!

“You do not have to be afraid of anything,” Chantal emphasized. “Because God gives us a word, He gives us a promise, a solid word that we don’t have to be afraid of anything.”

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” -Isaiah 41:10

Fear

The Scripture has clearly told us to not be afraid of anything because God is by our side. And with God by our side, nothing can come against us.

“The reason why you should not be afraid of anything is that God is with you,” she added.

God has promised us that we would never be ashamed and disgraceful and that no one can oppose us. Let us just trust God and hold on to His promises.

“Trust God, do not be afraid. Fear will not let you enter into the presence of God and into the promise of God.”

Do not be afraid

Do not fear because fear can hinder us from entering God’s presence and pursuing the promises of God. Greater things will come for those who do not fear and continue to boldly live for Jesus Christ.

“You will not be ashamed. God will not let you stand ashamed. No one is going to laugh over you. When God brings you out, everybody will say, ‘That was the man that trusted God. That was the one that was rooted in the Word.’”
