A 55-year-old woman is sewing masks and hanging them on a “Giving Tree” for anyone to take.
Giving Tree
Christmas season may still be far away, but a tree on Lisbon, Iowa seems to look like a Christmas tree because of the generous heart of a woman. The 55-year-old Deb Siggings is responding to the needs of her community by using her sewing skills.
Deb started to sew masks for the hospital but as she observed that everyone in the community needed them, she started to sew more masks. When the masks are finished she then hangs them on a tree that she calls a “Giving Tree” so that anyone could take a mask whenever they needed it.
“My goal was to do 100 for the hospital, but then my friends and family wanted some and it just snowballed,” Deb said. “It went crazy, I’m getting so many requests from everywhere to the point where I can’t keep up.”

Face Masks
When Deb heard that the UnityPoint Health’s St. Luke Hospital in Cedar Rapids needed help from the community, the crafty woman was eager to help. The local hospital requested help since health care workers are facing shortages of face masks.
All across the nation, Americans are coming together to help in this battle against coronavirus.

Aside from the local hospital, Deb has also sewed masks for the firefighters, paramedics, grocery stores employees, and elderly patients. The masks hanging on the tree usually disappear within the day.
“I’m a giver, not a taker, so I’m always happy to help,” Deb said.
The kind-hearted woman plans on continuing what she does until the pandemic is over.
