The author and senior pastor of Shadow Mountain Community Church, Dr. David Jeremiah, talked about the reasons to celebrate the birth of Jesus with Sheila Walsh. He also shared profound lessons about the three wise men who visited the baby Jesus. First, Sheila asked him about the significance of the star that guided them to Bethlehem. According to Dr. David, the star wasn’t going in the right direction as far as the universe was concerned. Thus, he considered it as a miraculous star. “It wasn’t an accident…It was God’s miraculous star to bring the wise men to where they could worship the Lord,” he explained.
Meanwhile, he also highlighted that the wise men had portrayed an important message to God’s people. Jesus didn’t only come for the poor and weary, but he was also here for the aristocratic and for those who were at a higher level. He said that sometimes, the three wise men were harder to reach than the shepherds.
Additionally, he clarified that the wise men and the shepherds didn’t visit Jesus together, which was mostly depicted in some portraits and Christmas scenes. The wise men came two years after Jesus’ birth. They went through a long journey just to praise Him. “They came to worship the Lord with the determination that most of us don’t have,” he remarked.

The Significance Of The Wise Men’s Gifts
Moreover, the wise men brought significant gifts for Jesus. Gold is a gift for the king. “I think when they open that treasure, nobody had to ask what’s that all about… This is a kingly gift,” he recounted. On the other hand, frankincense was an aroma that was very familiar to people who went to the temple. He considered it as a powerful aroma.
Then, the last gift, which was the surprising one, was myrrh. It was an embalming fluid that pictured the coming death of Jesus. “It was nonetheless a powerful reminder that Jesus one day would be wrapped as a mummy and myrrh would be between the cloth that He was wrapped in,” he shared.
