David Ingall Shares How Prayer Can Effectively Bring Peace

David Ingall talked about anxiety and how prayer can effectively bring people a peace that surpasses all understanding.

The founder and ministry director of Burning Heart shared insights about finding peace through prayer. He mentioned Philippians 4:6, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” Apostle Paul wrote this verse, and according to David, he wasn’t just addressing a general sense of anxiety but specific worries. He encouraged people who are faced with overwhelming concerns.

“Anxiety takes up a lot of time and head space. And what Paul is trying us to here is to redirect that from worrying to praying,” he remarked. He believed that it worked. Prayer distressed him and restored his peace at the same time. That’s when he encouraged people not to dwell on their worries. Instead, they needed to pray about them. David also highlighted what Paul promised.

Peace in Prayer

Philippians 4:7 says, “And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” He explained that what people mostly worried about was the future and a quick fix in the present isn’t always possible. That’s why God grants His people peace even amid struggles and difficulties.

When Paul included the words petition and request in Philippians 4:6, ‘They seemed to presuppose that the answer might be no.” David also added that the peace of God is found not in demanding a particular solution but in surrendering the problem to Him and trusting Him with the outcome. When people present requests to God, they are not telling Him what to do but they are asking Him to resolve the situation. As a result, this removes the pressure on them because they are no longer responsible for sorting things out.

“Prayer brings us peace because it brings us closer to God. And allows Him to help us in all the stresses and struggles in life no matter how big or small,” he highlighted.

David Ingall shared a profound revelation that can be found in 2 Corinthians 6:10. He discussed what Paul meant when he said, “Sorrowful, yet always rejoicing.”

The founder and ministry director of Burning Heart, David Ingall, shared about rejoicing in moments of sorrow and pain. In 2 Corinthians 6:10, Paul described himself as sorrowful yet always rejoicing. According to David, Paul treated sorrow and rejoicing as something that could come together. “There is a tension between them, yet somehow he knows that they don’t cancel each other out,” he narrated. For him, this was very important. In his experience as a Pastor, he heard people say that they couldn’t rejoice, especially when there was too much pain and sorrow.

Many interpret Paul’s message to say we should ignore the sorrow and gloss over the tough stuff.

“Paul knew that you can’t wish away grief and unhappiness and pretend it doesn’t exist. He’s not asking you to do that,” he highlighted. He added that it’s okay to struggle and weep, but people can still rejoice even in the midst of trials.

Sorrowful, Yet Always Rejoicing

Paul also wrote, ‘Rejoice in the Lord.’ Paul was not denying the struggles of life, but he was saying that even in the midst of storms, people still had a reason to rejoice. Furthermore, David recalled Paul’s situation as he wrote the verse. He was in prison, most likely waiting for trial or execution. And as bad as it was, he knows that what he had in Jesus was even better.

“A few verses earlier, he describes the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus, my Lord. Next to which, everything else is dumb or rubbish in comparison,” he explained. Moreover, he said that even Paul couldn’t fully describe how special and precious knowing Jesus was. Nothing could shake Paul’s greatest joy, even in prison and death, because nothing could take it away from him.

David Ingall shared some revelation he received on the GOD TV Together show from Philippians 4 about stepping into God’s peace.

The founder of Burning Heart Ministries, David Ingall, talked about God’s peace with Fergus Scarfe. David started by sharing what the peace of God truly means. The word peace means “Shalom” in Hebrew. According to David, it is more than just an absence of conflict, but it’s about flourishing in life.

Fergus asked David to unpack Philippians 4 as a template through which people can pray and find peace. He answered by saying, “We sometimes read the promise of Peace as a kind of stand-alone thing that God will just dump on you from above… And we think it’s something quite passive…When we look at Philippians 4, we see that it’s actually very proactive.”

Pursuing God’s Peace

He explained that a series of commands is written in Philippians 4: 4-7, “Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the Peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

“He [Paul] is giving you a series of instructions, and he is saying, ‘And the peace of God that which passes all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds,’” he highlighted.

David will be launching a new program on GOD TV on November 1, 2023, called Pursuing Peace. He will talk about more of this profound understanding on his show.
