The Center player of Pheonix Suns made a selfless decision of donating his entire year’s worth of salary to save people’s lives. This decision was made after his dad died in August 2022 due to COVID. With his father’s passing, his love for basketball kind of faded.
“The only way I would do it this year was if we find a situation one, that I’ll fit in and two, that would play for something,” he said in an interview. “I wanted to make this year about my dad because my dad spent most of his life making his life about me, my brothers and my sisters, and servicing people.”
Hospital in Congo
What can motivate him to play after losing a very special person is for him to play for a cause. So, he called his agent and told him about his decision. He is going to construct a hospital in the Democratic Republic of Congo from his own salary.
“My salary this year would be going to the construction of a hospital back home. To give hope to the hopeless at home. And those individuals that cannot take their family members out, I want to be able to give them better conditions so that they can somewhat have hope that their loved ones will be able to live and see another day.”
The hospital will be named after his dad Francois Biyombo. Bismack wanted to give hope to the people in his native country and to save as many lives as he can.
“We’re just trying to make sure we can save as many lives as we can.”
