Madi Prew Troutt shared a powerful message emphasizing that “a life partner is meant to complement you, not complete you.”
Complete or Complement?
Single individuals seeking marriage often have personal preferences and standards when choosing a partner. For some, the idea of romance may seem like the missing piece in their lives, while others view it differently. Regardless, finding meaning in relationships is significant for many people.
In a profound insight offered by Madi Prew Troutt, she delved into the difference between “completing and complementing” within a relationship. According to her, there is a substantial difference. She stressed that “completing speaks to lack,” while “complementing speaks to addition.”Madi explained that when a person seeks completion in a relationship, it comes from a feeling of insufficiency. She explained, “It says something is lacking in you and you need someone to fulfill that lack and meet that void.”
On the other hand, regards that complementing about “adding to your life.” She clarified, “It’s not competing, but it is adding value to your life.”
Prayer Shifted
Then, Madi shared how it totally changed her perspective. From the moment she discovered the truth, her prayers also shifted accordingly.
“I remember I just started praying like ‘Lord, okay I’m gonna change my perspective,” she narrated. “You’re the only One who can complete me. But I am praying for a partner in life that can complement me. That can add value to my life, that can bring just a new perspective and can push me in my faith. And can make me just more holy and just push me closer to You.’”
Subsequently, Madi witnessed God’s faithfulness in answering her prayers.
In conclusion, she remarked, “A partner in life is meant to complement you, not complete you. When we make someone our everything, we lose everything else.”
