Complaining hinders growth, because it keeps us focused on everything that’s wrong. Moving towards breakthrough and good outcomes takes a positivity. Instead of thinking what could go wrong, or what is going wrong, we need to look at what could go right. And, with God all things are possible! “Jesus looked at them and said, With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible'” (Matthew 19:26).

In a message on learning to meditate on the Word of God, Joyce said, “How long did it take you to get the wrong thought patterns and mindsets and attitudes? And how long is it going to take to change them? If you want to have the character of God, get ready to be patient.”

She spoke about reading the Word and meditating on it so that our minds can be renewed with the truth. Complaining hinders growth, but the Word of God heals our minds.

Complaining Hinders Growth

Whatever we fill ourselves with, will come out!

“A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of” (Luke 6:45).

If we are hanging around negative people, or we are consuming bad news, what good can come out of that? Grumbling and complaining stunts our growth, because we are focused on everything that’s going wrong.

The Bible is very clear about our speech. The tongue can either bring life or death.

“Gracious words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the body” (Proverbs 16:24).

“Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruits” (Proverbs 18:21).

God doesn’t want us to complain. He wants us to live as a light to those around us. Complaining does not lead people to the good news of Jesus.

“Do all things without grumbling or disputing, that you may be blameless and innocent, children of God without blemish in the midst of a crooked and twisted generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world” (Philippians 2:14-15).

We are ambassadors for Christ! He came to set us free, and so we can choose how we’re going to think and what we’re going to talk about.

Moving From Complaining to Rejoicing

Practice being thankful. Thank God for the air that you breathe. Thank Him for everything that He has done. Open the Bible and read it out loud. His Word is powerful! Our minds become renewed by reading the Word and in prayer. Time spent in the presence of God fills our cups!

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect” (Romans 12:2).

Bless the Lord with your speech, and bless the people around you. You are a temple of the Holy Spirit. Let His goodness flow out of you to encourage others. Keep your tongue from complaining and grumbling and speaking negatively.

“With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse people who are made in the likeness of God. From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so. Does a spring pour forth from the same opening both fresh and salt water?” (James 3:9-11).

A fruit of the Spirit is self-control. Take a break from reading bad news and listening to negativity. Exercise that self-control “muscle” and train your mind to think positive thoughts by spending time with Jesus. Soon you will find yourself encouraging others and seeing the atmosphere around you change.

Prayer

Holy Spirit, thank you for being present with me. Help me to guard my mouth and to speak blessings over people around me. Father, forgive me for complaining and grumbling. I praise you and thank you for who you are and all that you’ve done. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

God hates complaining, now that is a strong statement! But there is truth to it. Bill Johnson says, “If the Lord inhabits your praises, then who inhabits your complaining?” It is a sober reminder that the Lord cannot be found in our complaints.

Complaint-Free Days: Challenge yourself to go a day without complaining. Whenever a complaint arises, intentionally replace it with a statement of gratitude. Over time, this can become a habit that reshapes your mindset.

Encourage Others: Make it a habit to encourage others instead of dwelling on shared grievances. Offer words of affirmation and kindness, creating an atmosphere of positivity around you.

In one of TBN’s episodes, John Bevere and a couple, Matt and Laurie Crouch, talked about finding God in wilderness seasons.

Laurie Crouch shared her powerful encounter with God that made her realize that complaining is a “wasted time.”

With her husband Matt Crouch, Laurie leads the Trinity Broadcasting Network. Throughout the years of serving the ministry, have had her fair share of challenges along the way. One of the encounters she experienced from God completely changed the way she dealt with difficult circumstances.

It was when Laurie went to a restaurant with her husband and kids. It was supposed to be a normal day, but it became a turning point in her life.

Laurie Crouch: The Struggle

She recalled: “I was in a restaurant with my kids and Matt. And all of a sudden my world just went pitch black. It was as if I was the only soul that had ever been created, and it was just me and God. And I heard Him say to me, He said: “What do you have to bring me?”

All of a sudden, it was as if her life just flashed before her eyes. She saw the times of struggles, fighting, and complaining.

“And it was such a wasted time. Those were wasted times that I worried, that I fretted about things, and the only times that I had– so the only thing that I had to bring God was the times that I stood in faith,” she said.

A New Perspective

Because of that encounter, Laurie gained a new perspective. That is when things started to change.

“I spoke, not out of fear, not out of complaining, or insecurity. But I stood up and said, “No, that’s not what the word of God says. The word of God says I am healed. The word of God brings me joy, this is my peace. This is my joy, this is my rock, who He said He is. And that was the only thing that I had to give God when I got there,” she said.

Furthermore, Matt added a lesson that he himself realized: “Complaining and excuses are the enemy to preparation for your future.”

What Does The Bible Say

“And do not grumble, as some of them did–and were killed by the destroying angel.” 1 Corinthians 10:10

In 1 Corinthians 10:10, you and I are harshly reminded not to grumble or complain, for these tendencies can lead us away from the abundant joy that God intends for us. Gratitude eliminates complaining, we are called to cultivate hearts of gratitude, even in the midst of challenges and trials. Gratitude is a powerful force that shifts our perspective and opens our eyes to the countless blessings that surround us.

When you find yourself in difficult circumstances, it can be easy to slip into a pattern of complaining. However, this only serves to magnify your problems and hinder your ability to see the goodness that still exists in your life. Gratitude, on the other hand, redirects your focus towards the positive, allowing you to recognize God’s hand at work even in the smallest details.

Consider the Israelites in the wilderness. Despite God’s miraculous provision of manna and water, they grumbled and complained, allowing their discontentment to overshadow the incredible blessings they were receiving. In doing so, they missed out on fully experiencing God’s goodness and provision.

As a believer, you are called to a higher standard. You are called to be a person marked by gratitude, recognizing that every good and perfect gift comes from above. When you cultivate a heart of thankfulness, you create an environment where God’s presence and blessings can flourish. Gratitude becomes a beacon of light, shining through your life and drawing others closer to the source of all goodness.

So, choose gratitude today. Lift your voice in praise and thanksgiving, knowing that in doing so, you align your heart with God’s desires for you. Banish grumbling and complaining, and make room for joy to abound, and step into the fullness of life that God has prepared for you.

What’s Wrong With “What’s Wrong?”

What’s wrong with “What’s wrong?” Ever hear people ask the question, “What’s wrong?” whenever something’s going on that they don’t understand? Everyone goes silent and the air gets sucked out of the room. Fear fueled curiosity widens everyone’s eyes as all attention goes to the “victim.” This is a great way to teach children to become the center of attention by being problem focused rather than problem solvers. Eventually someone like a boss or drill sergeant will respond to a whining complaint from that kid by getting in their face and asking, “What are you going to do about it?” So how can you teach your kids to be solution focused problem solvers? And how do you learn to be a faith filled listener rather than an anxiety ridden fear seeker?

Let’s go back to the question at hand. The question, “What’s wrong” opens you up to an avalanche of complaint. Mental self torment your kind of thing? Poking that wound until it bleeds all over you is a great way to make your day the opposite of better. Instead try asking these questions instead. “What happened, what’s happening?” This question invites a perspective, a story, and puts freedom into the conversational equation. It doesn’t assume or assign the identity of a victim and it doesn’t put a negative knee jerk reaction of fear or panic into the atmosphere. Most of all it offers dignity to the one that something “happened” to. Because it doesn’t invite them to become a victim in the story, they have a chance to get their power back.

Jesus encountered people who had issues all the time. They surrounded Him and bombarded him with medical and personal issues. He never once focused on the problem. He listened to people’s stories and offered solutions. There was never an ounce of panic in His tone. Though He faced anxiety head on He was never without access to the solution. The disciples had a confidence in this.

How do I know? Because in the garden He sweat blood beneath the crushing weight of what was to come, surrounded by disciples who never once asked, “What’s wrong?” He was so conscious of the endless resources of heaven at His disposal that it never crossed the minds of His followers to consider that their Master was dealing with something deeper than they could fathom. Here’s the question I wish beyond anything that they would have asked Him. “What’s happening?” This may have provided some insight, clarity, and revelation. And isn’t this what questions are supposed to produce?

When we lose sight of why we’re asking the questions we’re asking, we don’t mind asking the wrong ones. Dig into the stories before you by caring to hear of the happenings around you and you’ll find yourself in a world of clarity rather than confusion.

Relentless Woman, Stop Comparing And Find Joy In The Ordinary

Comparing ourselves with others is a killer of joy. It poisons our hearts and minds, and we overlook the blessings God has given us. So, we should learn to find joy even in the ordinary by being grateful even in the smallest things.

Stop Comparing

Once there was a little girl who always felt like she was her father’s favorite. Until one day, while enjoying all the toys her father gave him, her big sister sat beside her. Then she saw her big sister’s toy bigger than hers and started to frown. The joy painted on her face turned dull, and she walked out of the room. She complained to her father, but her father’s response was mere, “My dear, your big sister needs that toy, because she’s already big.” The little girl didn’t understand and walked her way out from her father and cried.

Sometimes, the little girl in the story is us. We feel blessed and grateful until we see somebody having more, compare ourselves, and then complain to God. It’s how the enemy discourages us for us to turn our backs on God instead of being grateful to Him.

How To Be Grateful?

Know and discern your season. Is it a time of sowing or reaping? Is it a time of preparation or receiving? We tend to lose sight of God’s moving in our life when we look and compare ourselves with others. Failing to discern our season would eventually lead us to try to copy somebody else’s life. Which only leads to a spiraling downward path.

To be grateful is acknowledging that God’s ways are perfect in your life.

It is written in Isaiah 55:8-9, “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts.”

When we trust God with His ways in our lives, we become grateful even in small things and learn to rejoice in other people’s victory.

Therefore, relentless woman, know your season and let God come through for you. Maybe during this time, He is preparing your heart, molding you for your biggest breakthrough. So, while you are here in this season, find joy in the ordinary, and be confident of Who is with you.
