CMA Awards guest host Dolly Parton brought her Christian faith on the stage with some Christian artists.

The 53rd Annual Country Music Association (CMA) Awards was held on November 13 at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee. Carrie Underwood hosted the event with special guest host Reba McEntire and Dolly Parton. According to CMA CEO Sarah Trahern, they were chosen to host to celebrate legendary women in country music.

“In addition to awarding the year’s best and brightest in the genre, the 53rd Annual CMA Awards will celebrate the legacy of women within country music, and we couldn’t think of a more dynamic group of women to host the show,” Sarah said.

Dolly Parton

Singer and songwriter Dolly Parton made headlines when she brought up her Christian faith at the CMA Awards. Dolly performed powerful Christian songs with several Christian artists.

Dolly started her performance with  For King & Country and their song “God Only Knows”.

“The way it came about was she literally said to our manager that she wants to get involved with kind of more gospel inspirational music. Then a day or two later, when ‘God Only Knows’ came across our desk and she saw it as a providential moment. And I really feel like Lord willing in the show it will be just that,” Joel Smallbone, member of For King & Country, said.

“There Was Jesus”

After her powerful performance with For King & Country, Dolly then performed another song with Christian rock artist Zach Williams for his hit song “There Was Jesus”. Zach later thanked Dolly in an Instagram post for their amazing performance.

“Just got off stage with @DollyParton, what an amazing honor to share the stage with you, thank you so much,” Zach wrote on his Instagram post.

“Faith”

Dolly ended her performance with a powerful rendition of John Hiatt’s “Have A Little Faith In Me”. Dolly revived that song on a remix entitled “Faith” with Galantis and Mr. Probz.

God on CMA Awards

Dolly successfully brought place to God at the annual CMA Awards and inspired everyone to know Christ. In a recent interview, Dolly opened up about her purpose in life and that is to “do something for God”.

“I’m going to try to get more into doing more uplifting songs,” she said. “Just like ‘God Only Knows’ and ‘Have a Little Faith in Me’ and ‘There was Jesus’. Not all religious songs, but just songs that are kinder, more fun, more uplifting, make you feel good about yourself, make you feel good about life and other people. I’m hoping to try to spread a little light.”
