Matt Fuqua Of The Christian Band ‘The Afters’ Gets Real About Family Struggles

Christian artist Matt Fuqua talked about hoping in God despite not having their prayers answered.

“The Afters” Matt Fuqua shared how choosing to hope in God can be challenging, especially when prayers are unanswered. His wife has been struggling with a lung condition and a cancerous tumor.

“Our guitar player Matt shares about his wife’s battle with a cancerous tumor and lung disease…the incredibly hard events that inspired our song God Is With Us,” written on the band’s Instagram account dated October 2023.

Matt admitted that life had been difficult to navigate for him, especially as a husband.

“As a husband and a father, we’re just wired to fix things. And there’s no solution. There’s nothing I can do,” he said.

Wife’s Health Struggles

For about a year and a half, Matt’s wife had been experiencing breathing issues and asthma. Her pulmonologist kept thinking it was just asthma, but she knew there was something different that didn’t feel like asthma.

The doctors couldn’t figure it out, so they tried one drug after another and conducted various tests to determine the best course of treatment. Finally, they prescribed a specific drug, but it made her condition worse.

During that time, she developed a chronic lung disease. It’s so rare that you can hardly find any information about it, which is why Matt felt so confused and unsure.

“Navigating is hard when you don’t have any answers. And you don’t have a path forward,” he said.

Matt Fuqua Chooses To Believe

He added, “You try to keep a positive attitude and stay hopeful. But then I think when her pain gets worse, it’s harder for her to keep that hope.”

At first, Matt thought that after the surgery, things would progress. But that wasn’t what happened. Despite everything, Matt chose to hope in God.

“I think there’s not a good answer for why this happens to my wife, and why the chronic pain, and why this disease doesn’t have a cure,” he said. “But I do feel that God has kind of just walked with us through it, in a weird way. Not the way that gets tied up with a bow at the end, but just like a Job kind of way. … And then thinking about finding hope in that pain is just the presence of God being with us.”

Christian Artist Logan Cain Shares How To Love Someone With An Addiction

Logan Cain from the Christian band CAIN discussed how he learned to love someone grappling with addiction. He described it as loving someone in the manner that Jesus loves.

According to the band’s official website, CAIN quickly rose to prominence following the release of their debut single, “Rise Up (Lazarus),” which achieved RIAA Gold® certification in early 2020.

The three siblings, Madison Cain Johnson, Taylor Cain Matz, and Logan Cain, were raised in Hartselle, Alabama, as the children of a pastor and currently reside in Nashville. Their breakthrough moment came in 2012 when they opened for Dave Barnes and Andrew Ripp at a concert.

After receiving an award from Sony Music/Provident Entertainment, the band has released four albums, sharing the stage with notable artists such as TobyMac, Zach Williams, and Casting Crowns. They have performed at prestigious venues like The Grand Ole Opry, Red Rocks Amphitheater, and Ryman Auditorium.

But one of the band members, Logan, was experiencing challenges at home. He recalled that when he initially met his wife, he could sense immediately that she exhibited the fruits of the Holy Spirit, despite not having grown up in the church.

They dated for a year and then encountered conflicts. Logan came to the realization that he loved her and wanted to marry her, but he harbored significant reservations about marrying someone who didn’t merely profess to be a Christian, especially not at the level that he did.

“After about a year, we split up,” Logan said. “And in the three months apart, was when my wife realized that she had an irregular relationship with alcohol. That really came to a head for her. In that summer, she had an experience. She had an incident with alcohol. She blacked out, she woke up in the back of an ambulance.”

Logan Cain Shares How To Love Someone With An Addiction

His wife received a significant wake-up call from that experience. Subsequently, she found herself driving one day, calling out to the Lord. At that precise moment, God met her, and she surrendered her life to the Lord right there in the car. However, the struggles persisted.

After three months of not seeing each other, they coincidentally ran into each other at a basketball game, ending up seated next to each other. They talked, and she shared the story of how God had transformed her life. This October marks his wife’s fourth year of sobriety. Praise God!

Logan then concluded, “When she gave her life to Jesus, alcohol didn’t just go away. When I think about walking out of sobriety from alcohol or any substance, what does that look like on a daily basis? When somebody’s struggling, it’s easy to, after a while, when your care starts to wear thin, you can start to get a little impatient with people. And then to realize, I think this is what Jesus was talking about when He was saying, when somebody asks you for your shirt, give him your jacket too.”

Christian Band for KING & COUNTRY Talks About Surrendering To God

The real-life story of the Christian band for KING & COUNTRY will soon be portrayed in theaters with their movie, “Unsung Hero.”

The movie “Unsung Hero” depicts how their parents’ support and sacrifices laid the foundation for their children to pursue their calling and chase their dreams.

“Our parents immigrated from Australia when my father was 40. They had six kids and then had a seventh here,” Luke Smallbone told Billboard. “It wasn’t until a tour that my dad had in Australia went wrong that we lost everything we had… So we came to America broke, and it forced us to really bond as a family. We were all Australians in a new country, we all talked weird. Our family has five boys and two girls and we’ve all just had each other’s backs.”

Before “Unsung Hero,” the two artists from the band For KING + COUNTRY, Luke and Joel Smallbone, initially embraced their calling to create Christian music, leading them to become the quadruple GRAMMY®-winning progressive pop artist-songwriters.

But with great rewards come great sacrifices. Luke Smallbone once shared in an interview how crucial surrendering to God is.

“We want to be very secure people. When I say secure, we want to be financially secure, we want to be socially secure, have it all worked out,” he said.

But he mentioned that true security can only be found in God’s presence.

“And I think that if you look at the root of what, particularly Western Christianity, it looks like we actually don’t need Jesus all that much. And what I mean by that is, we desperately do but we live our life as if we don’t,” he said.

Seeing and experiencing miracles in one’s life involves beginning to let go of the expectation of having everything figured out.

Luke said that the most frequently asked question he received is, “Where do you think you’re going to be in the next five to ten years?”

Luke then cited Matthew 6:34, “Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own” (NIV). He mentioned that there is already enough to contend with in the present moment, emphasizing the importance of casting our burdens onto God as that is where true safety lies.

“The only place that you truly find strength and rest is knowing who Jesus is. It’s knowing actually where you stand with God. So, I think what I would say is surrender those things. Surrender what it looks like to be successful in man’s eyes,” Luke said. “If you really live that out truthfully, your life would probably change drastically in the coming weeks, in the coming years. It will be incredibly thrilling, it would be incredibly powerful. I think you’ll look back and go, “I’m glad I surrendered that.””

Christian Band Surprises Bus Passenger With Financial & Eternal Blessings

A Christian band surprised bus passengers with monetary and eternal blessings!

New Heights is a non-denominational evangelism and music ministry that loves to bring worship songs and Jesus to public places. In a recent video they uploaded on their Facebook page, the band was seen riding a bus full of passengers. The bus was headed to Davao, a city in the southernmost part of the Philippines.

They brought their guitar, beatboxes, and speakers to lead the passengers in worshipping God. The passengers seemed to be enjoying the beat and the song that they were playing. Right after singing some worship songs, an evangelist stood in front to share the Gospel with everyone.

Eternal blessings

“We have a blessing for you right now. Who needs some good news? Who’s tired of bad news,” Presley asked. “I just want to share this, we’re not representing religion, but the Person Jesus Christ. And only Jesus, the name above all names, the King of kings, the Lord of lords, came to earth and died on the cross for us. Why? Because He loves us so much. The Bible teaches, that if any person is in Christ, believes in Christ, and accepts what He did on the Cross, you go from being dead to heaven to life in Christ. See He demonstrated his love for us. While we were sinners, Christ died for us. Your past, all of your failures, has been cleansed by the blood of Jesus.”

Financial blessing

After sharing the Gospel, the evangelist then led everyone to accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Many passengers raised their hands to Jesus and surrendered their lives to Him. Not only did the worship band give eternal blessings to those passengers, but they also gave them financial blessings inside an envelope.

New Heights teaches us that we can share Jesus anytime and anywhere; we just need to be willing to preach the good news.

Out Of The Ashes Releases New Video “Pray that Prayer”

Christians are forever presented with other people who do amazing things to bring about God’s Kingdom on earth – from Mother Theresa and Billy Graham, to recent legends such as Robby Dawkins, Nick Vujicic and Heidi Baker.

It is tempting to feel inadequacy and give in, thus leaving the Kingdom effort to others. But God doesn’t look at us in that way, and His plan is never quite the same for any two of us. Life will be challenging, exciting, fulfilling and perfectly tailor made for who we are. He therefore asks nothing more than to pray that prayer and take those steps, something that this song is all about.

Inspiration For Pray That Prayer

Out of the Ashes is back with a classic retro themed visual, filmed in the partly derelict New Olympus Theatre in Gloucestershire, UK. The video has a quirky 1950s feel with Jazz Jive dancers, and the singers in dresses from this period.

The authenticity carries on through the story of the theatre’s caretaker going back in time where the band are jiving and jamming. It also includes a cameo from the man who is the driving force behind getting the beautiful theatre renovated.

A Strange Occurrence

The video was shot on a freezing cold day in January on a very tight schedule. Half through filming the power was inadvertently cut, but nothing had tripped. After exploring all possible options the crew couldn’t figure it out. It was decided that prayer would be a good idea!

It turned out that a main breaker for the stage had been thrown, not a trip switch. However, the big, heavy lever that needed to be flipped was behind a load of old props. The whole thing had a distinctive air and was just too weird to be comfortable. It was a good reminder that choosing to pray that prayer is always a good thing!

Christian Band ‘Tenth Avenue North’ Splitting Up After 20 Long Years

The award-winning Christian band Tenth Avenue North bids farewell after 20 long years of making Christian music together.

Band members Mike Donehey, Jeff Owen, and Ruben Juarez III are saying farewell to their fans and followers.

In a recent Instagram post by the Christian group, they announced that they are going separate ways. And that this year would be Tenth Avenue North’s last concert tour.

“Goodbyes ain’t easy,” captioned frontman Mike Donehey in his social media post.

“Words always seem to fail when it comes to farewell. Even the best goodbyes are bittersweet. Maybe we’re made for eternity after all…”

Then he reminisced about the band’s humble beginnings:

“20 years ago, Tenth Avenue North was nothing but three friends goofing around in a PBA dorm room. We never dreamt it would take us around the globe, not in a million years. But here we are, two decades, shaking our heads, grateful, in all. We’re grateful for all the stories, all the tears, for all the memories we’ve made. Did I mention the music?”

For the past 10 years, Tenth Avenue North has sold more than 1.5 million albums. Also, their songs have been No. 1 on Christian radio several times.

Over all the band has released 15 original music projects including their independent releases.

The letter to fans continues, “It’s been a glorious, hard fought, and oftentimes breath-taking journey. We feel like we’ve seen it all. The fights, the victories, the forgiveness period, the mercy … truckloads of mercy.”

“Now it seems a season is coming to a close,” the letter declared.

“One by one, band members have been moving on. We don’t consider this a sign of unhealth, quite the opposite. After 20 years, we’re dreaming new dreams. It’s time to encourage one another to go, go and do all that is in our hearts to do.”

The band also revealed through the post that their “Finally Living Tour” this month would be their “final farewell tour.”

“That’s what it is a farewell. It is with a great deal of joy and sorrow all mixed up together, we want you to know this will be our last tour as Tenth Avenue North,” they said.

Then they concluded the letter trusting God into the unknown future.

“This will be the last tour we ever do. We don’t exactly know what the future holds, but we believe this, when the way isn’t clear before us, we do well to pay attention to what doors are being closed behind us. Leaning into this guidance, we are going to lean forward into the unknown.”

The trio ended their love-letter to fans with gratitude: “We love you all. It has been an incredible journey. May the God who gave us the grace to continue, give us the grace to end well. Here’s the one last tour together. Hope to see you out there.”

The post received various reaction especially from Christian music peers.

Christian singer Natalie Grant commented, “‘Worn’ will forever be one of my very favorite songs. Well done, friends.”

“Love you and the band, Mike. So thankful for who you guys are and what you brought to the world!!” Phil Wickham also commented.

Another Christian singer, Danny Gokey wrote, “I still remember you all making room on your bus for my wife so she could come and see me on tour. You guys also gave up one of your bunks so that I could be on the bus with her too. One of the many generous things you’ve guys done!! Love y’all and have great memories that I’ll cherish forever with you!!”
