Lorisa Miller delivered a powerful reminder to every married couple, stating that a husband and wife are a metaphor of Christ and His church in human form.
Lorisa Miller
During the New Year’s End Service, Lorisa Miller, one of the founders of Upperroom, preached about God’s love. She referenced what Paul said in Ephesians 5: 28-29, “So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself. For no one ever hated his own flesh but nourishes and cherishes it just as the Lord does the church.” Then she continued in verse 32, “This is a great mystery, but I speak concerning Christ and the church.”
After reading the Word of God, she elucidated to the congregation that the relationship between a husband and wife serves as a metaphor for Christ and His church in human form. This notion signified that when her children witnessed her husband, Michael, loving her, they would perceive Jesus loving His church.
“The world should be able to look at our marriages and go, ‘Wow, what is that? I’ve never seen a love like that. I’ve never seen somebody laid down their life for somebody else like that,’” she highlighted.

What Love Is
Furthermore, she reminded the people what Corinthians 13 said, “Love is patient. Love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not rude. It is not self-seeking.” She emphasized that love does not involve lining up twelve women and selecting the cutest one for a man to sleep with.
Moreover, she emphasized, “The enemy can’t have his way anymore in our families. That God wants to invade and restore families. And that so many of you who are single tonight, who are young and single, God’s going to heal your heart…The Holy Spirit promises that he will teach you all things… he’s going to do a healing work tonight.”
