The wife of an imprisoned Chinese pastor urged the global church for prayers for her husband and fellow Christians. “May the Lord be glorified in the entire process and reveal His justice,” she shared. “The case will advance, and the attorney will be used by God to convey justice in the court.”
Imprisoned Chinese Pastor
Despite feeling concerned for her husband, Zhang Chenghao, Guo Juan kept her trust in God. Her faith remains in the Sovereign and Just Lord.
The persecution of Christians in China is still evident in the communist country. In fact, several members of the Taiyuan Zion Reformed Church have been detained, including Chenghao. They were accused of “crossing the border illegally” after attending a Christian conference in Malaysia last 2021.
Officials released five of the detainees last March of this year. But sadly, Juan’s husband and their senior pastor, Pastor An Yankui, are still in custody.
Since their capture, the pastors were not allowed to see their wives or loved ones. Requests for visitations were also refused. Juan was concerned if her husband had a coat to wear during the winter.
Finally, a breakthrough happened. The pastors’ lawyer was able to meet the detained men of God after multiple failed attempts in the previous months.
The attorney informed Juan of Chenghao’s well-being as well as his concern for his family. To this, Juan could only ask the church to continue to include Chenghao and Pastor Yankui in their prayers.
Prayers for Chinese Christians
She said, “May the Lord lead Zhang Chenghao so that his heart can be steadfast in God’s grace and filled with peace and joy.”
Persecution is familiar to Christians. The first disciples were not exempt from this. But, Paul encouraged us with this truth. “We are hard-pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed.” (2 Corinthians 4:8-9)
We may be persecuted by the world but we are not abandoned by God. He is with us through it all and He will never leave us. Nothing can destroy those whose lives are in God’s hands.
Let us pray for pastors Chenghao and Yankui and all the Christians in China. May the Lord strengthen them in His truth and grace.
