A smiling newborn baby is bringing hope to hospital staff amid coronavirus pandemic crisis.
Smiling newborn baby
On April 20, Jasmine Mallarpe gave birth to Baby Jin Riley at the Cebu Doctors’ University Hospital. The adorable baby was born three weeks after the city was placed on lockdown due to the coronavirus outbreak. Despite the current crisis, Baby Jin is bringing joy and hope to everyone with his adorable smile.
As the medical staff was attending to the newborn, Baby Jin greeted them with the most adorable smile. Instead of crying as all newborn babies do, he smiled as they were patting his back.
“The doctors patted baby Jin’s back to make him cry, instead, he smiled,” jasmine said.
The heart-warming moment was caught on camera by one of Jasmine’s doctors and was uploaded on Facebook by Dr. Yong Larrazabal III on April 22. On his caption along with the photo, Dr. Yong said that he saw hope with the angelic smile of baby Jin.
“When I saw this cute little smile and radiant eyes today – all I see is HOPE,” Dr. Yong wrote. “… This is such a wonderful reminder of why we do what we are doing because we are not just fighting the pandemic for what’s left for us today rather for what’s ahead of this baby.”
Hope amid crisis
Jasmine was hesitant to give birth at a hospital since the number of COVID-19 patients in the hospital was rising. But she placed her trust in God and in the hospital staff.
“Actually, we became hesitant before, knowing that the COVID-19 cases in Cebu city are increasing. But we are confident that the hospital is doing its best to ensure the safety of their patients. We also prayed to God before leaving our home on that day. We prayed to God that He’ll protect us from any danger,” Jasmine said in an interview.
Baby Jin’s father, Reymann Mallarpe, is hoping that his son’s smile will spread hope to the people who have been greatly affected by this crisis.
“I do hope that through this once-in-a-lifetime photo of my son, we could give hope to people all around the world who are severely affected by COVID-19,” Reymann said.
