A mother turns over her son to the police after discovering he had carjacked a pastor. Although the pastor pressed charges, he welcomed the teen to his church and wished “not to see the incident define” his life.
Teens Carjacked A Pastor
In St. Louis, Missouri, Pastor Mike Coleman was carjacked by two teens in his church at the Cardonelet Baptist Church. According to KSDK-TV, the teens threatened the pastor with a gun and took his keys, wallet, and 2016 Dodge Caravan. But after taking his car, perhaps the teens didn’t know how to drive the vehicle; they “drove just a little distance” and hit other cars. Both then fled the scene.
In an interview with KMOV-TV, Mike admitted he lost it when the incident happened. He tried to calm down but to no avail.“And that transpires in about a minute, two minutes almost — maybe three, every second felt like an eternity,” he said.
Mom Turns Over Her Son To Authorities
Meanwhile, a mother tried to probe her 13-year-old son about what happened. Later, she did not hesitate to take her son to authorities to turn him over to them. It was a difficult decision for the parent, but it was the right thing to do.
“It was his mother becoming aware of the event and questioning her son,” Capt. Donnell Moore said. “And turning him over to the juvenile courts for prosecution. Investigators are still working to find the second suspect.”
Following the incident, Pastor Mike continued to press the charges. But not merely for the sake of justice but because he wanted “to see changed hearts and minds.”“It’s important to prosecute not out of meanness or ugliness, but turning a life around,” he told the outlet. “I told them I am praying for these kids.”
Pastor Invites To Church
The pastor desires that the incident will awaken the whole community. He also commended the teen boy’s mom, who did what was right.
“..probably the hardest thing, but the best thing, she could do for him,” he told Fox News. “Because these people he’s dealing with, you don’t know how desperate they are.”
Moreover, the pastor is inviting the kid and his family to his church. He never wanted the young boy to let such a mishap define his entire life.
“We don’t exclude anybody. We are a hospital for sinners, not a museum for saints,” he remarked. “I don’t want this to define his life. I don’t want this to follow him.”
