A dying mother savored her last days with her son by worshiping God.
Dying mother
Colleen Chao had her son immediately after she was married at 34. In 2017, their family encountered a very painful issue that would change the course of their entire life. Colleen was diagnosed with stage four breast cancer. The most agonizing thing for her was realizing that she didn’t get to finish her role of being a mother to her son, Jeremy.
“I don’t get to finish my motherhood task, I’d be interrupted midstream… Jeremy’s story requires that I go before the task is finished and there’s going to be glory in that,” she said while holding her tears.

Colleen and her husband, Eddie, have always been open about her health condition to their son. They have also been preparing him for what’s going to happen to her in the future.
“It was very hard. Stage four cancer is very tough. I was just really sad,” Jeremy said.
Despite the suffering she has been facing, the loving mother has still kept her faith in the Lord.
“The suffering has been fashioned by God to take away the Colleen stuff that doesn’t need to be there. So that then I can live out of the heart that He has given me, that I could truly be the Colleen He’s been growing me more and more to be.”
Bidding goodbye
The thing she wanted her son and her husband to always remember about her is her love for Jesus.
“I hope they know and remember how much I love Jesus and how good Jesus has been to me. God didn’t cheat me, He didn’t cheat them, but they would know that I love Him and I trust Him and I know that He is about good in the worst parts of this story, worst, humanly speaking. I hope they remember my joy.”
She recently wrote an update about her health condition on her website, Colleen Chao. In her blog, she shared that she’s still undergoing medical procedures to prolong her time with her family. Let us pray for Colleen as they go through this tough and painful journey. May the Lord give them strength, comfort, and joy for the days to come.
