The 9/11 attack is one of the most unforgettable tragedies in history. During those times, people felt so much pain and suffering. The whole world was grieving because of that horrific moment. The families of the victims were seeking for justice because of what happened. They didn’t know that God had a wonderful message for them and for all of us.
In March 2002, a firefighter uncovered a very special fragment while he was checking out the last remnants of the south tower. He noticed a Bible verse fused to a chunk of steel. A photographer named Joel Meyerowitz happened to be there and the firefighter handed it to him. Then he saw the verse,
“Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth: But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.” Matthew 5:38-39
The remaining scripture from the Gospel of Matthew speaks about retaliation and forgiveness. Out of so many verses in the Bible, it was certainly not a coincidence for God to choose this wonderful message for those who are seeking justice. It reminds us to acknowledge Him as the One who is in charge of what happens around us.
“My astonishment at seeing the page that the Bible was open to made me realize that the Bible’s message survives throughout time,” Joel said.
Indeed, God speaks in so many ways. The words written in scripture are alive and active. It is “sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow.” It gives us so much hope and inspiration, like how He sent a very important message to everyone.
