Hearing God’s voice is for all believers. This may seem bold to say, but it’s simply the truth from the word of God. Jesus said,^“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me” (John 10:27). You can know God’s voice!

That is so good! We have a choice on how we’re going to live. Choosing to surrender to God is what makes us truly free. Surrendering to His presence and His voice is what gives us direction. What is it that God wants to do through you today?

Hearing God’s Voice Is For All Believers

Jesus is alive! He said that we would do even greater things than He did. Wow! “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father” (Joh 14:12). We know that Jesus spent a lot of time in prayer. He only said what He heard the Father saying. If we have His inheritance, it only makes sense that we can hear God’s voice, too.

However, “hearing” does not always mean hearing an audible voice. God speaks in many ways. We will know it’s Him if we spend time with Him. It could be a feeling you get, or an unction to do something. It could be a thought or the sense that you just know something.

“But he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. To him the gatekeeper opens. The sheep hear his voice, and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice” (John 10:2-4).

God gave Jeremiah a beautiful promise: ^“Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known” (Jeremiah 33:3).

God is the same yesterday, today, and forever!

^“As it is said, ‘Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion'” (Hebrews 3:15).

Application

Do you believe that you can hear God’s voice? If you long to hear God speak to you, but you’re not sure how, simply take time to listen. We can be so busy that we forget what it’s like to wait and to be still. God speaks even when noise surrounds us, but we need to learn to wait on Him. His voice is not just for our own benefit, but it is also for ministering to others. Is there something encouraging He wants to share with someone through you today?

Open your Bible, grab a journal, and ask Holy Spirit to help you hear His voice. Believe that He speaks, and trust that you hear Him.

Prayer

Jesus, you are my Shepherd, and I thank you that you speak to me. Help me to know when you’re speaking. Holy Spirit, thank you that you guide me into all truth! Remind me to sit quietly and wait. Meet me as I pray and seek you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Pastor Allen preached on Luke 7, where the woman anointed Jesus with an alabaster flask of ointment. The Pharisee who invited Jesus to eat with Him was appalled at the actions of this sinful woman. He couldn’t see past her sin, but Jesus taught him a powerful lesson on grace. “‘Therefore I tell you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven—for she loved much. But he who is forgiven little, loves little.’ And he said to her, ‘Your sins are forgiven’” (Luke 7:47-48).

In his message, Allen Jackson said, “I’m asking you to live with the humility to recognize that you have needed forgiveness, and that you can stand for the truth while you extend forgiveness or grace and mercy to those who are still struggling to find the truth for themselves.”

The Gift Of Grace

Jesus ruffled the feathers of religious leaders, but He opened the way of grace for the people who were shamed. That grace is for you today. No matter how far gone you are, He is still waiting. He loves you. The extravagant grace of Jesus is available!

“And Jesus answered them, ‘Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance'” (Luke 5:31-32).

This was hard for the religious leaders to hear, because they were so accustomed to laws. To hear Jesus speak was offensive to them. We can be a lot like the Pharisees in the way that we expect people to “fall in line” with truth. Yes, truth is important, but at one time, we were sinners, unable to see the truth. If we have received grace, we are to extend it to others. The extravagant grace of Jesus has not run out. It is available for people today, too. We need His grace daily, not matter how well we are doing. It is God’s kindness that leads to repentance (Romans 2:4).

^“Then they said to him, ‘What must we do, to be doing the works of God?’ Jesus answered them, ‘This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent'” (John 6:28-29). As we read the Gospels, we see the beautiful way in which people simply believed in Jesus. His grace invites us into a loving relationship with Him. All of the work will become a natural expression of our love for Him; a love that we can only have because He first loved us.

Application

Make a list of all the ways you have experienced God’s grace in your life. Thank Him for it all! Remembering what He has done for you is a great way to worship Him.
Is there anyone in your life who needs grace and forgiveness? What is one practical way you can reach out to them? Do you need to forgive them? Ask Holy Spirit to help you.
Do you feel too far gone in sin? Surrender to Jesus right now and ask Him for forgiveness. Give Him your life and let Him transform you. Believe that He loves you and can redeem all things.

Prayer

Jesus, thank you for your extravagant grace. Your blood covers my sin, so I ask for forgiveness and I receive your grace. You are the One true God! Your kindness leads me to repentance and you make me a new creation. Holy Spirit, you are my Helper. Help me to walk in purity and to have grace for others. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Dealing With Worry, Anxiety, & Fear

Everyone watching this at some point in your life will have to deal with worry and anxiety and fear. It comes to all of us. The secret is how we manage it in a moment. It reminds me of a story of something that happened to me when I was 15 years of age. It started on a Saturday football match. A couple of hard tackles became an argument, and became a fight that developed two months later in a full blown fight. I got five stitches on my head. It wasn’t so much the pain from the five stitches, but it was the worry afterwards. Was it over? Would the fight start again? I spent years looking over my shoulder, trying to avoid the wrong guy and being caught in the wrong neighborhood.

So about two years after the headbutt incident, I’m in Belfast City Center with my girlfriend, and who walks up beside me at these very traffic lights, but the very same guy we had the fight with. And he says to me, “Hey, Mitch, still playing football? Good to see you again. ” And he walks on. I mean, he walks on! I’ve been worried for two years about another fight, and he’s not even thinking about it.

And that’s the danger of worry and anxiety and fear. It gets a hold of your life. Often the other person isn’t even thinking about it, and it captures you. Worry, anxiety, fear, unforgiveness. They’re all real character crushers, and that’s not what Jesus wants from our lives. In fact, the Bible has hundreds of verses that say, do not fear, do not worry about tomorrow, be anxious for nothing.

I want to read to you a verse in the Bible from Philippians 4:6, and I hope and pray it will be helpful for you today. “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be known to God.” Be anxious for nothing. That word, ‘anxious’ means ‘to be torn in two’ literally, and sometimes worry and fear and anxiety can do that. Richard Foster, in his classic book, A Celebration Of Discipline, invites us to take a posture where we place the palms of our hands, lay them on our legs, and to pray and just to lay down all our worries, burdens, and fears. And as I close today, you pray your own prayer, your best prayer, and lay your worries and your burdens and your fears onto Jesus. Let’s pray.

The True Word of God

I was in West Africa not too long ago, and I held up a Bible and I said something that kind of shocked the church. And they all looked at me and kind of gave me that look like, are you teaching us something heretical or what? You know, it was one of those really critical, kind of suspicious looks that I got from everybody in the room. And what I did was I held up the Bible and I said, “Guys, I want to tell you something. This is not the Word of God.” And they all looked at me like, what? We know, that’s the Word of God! And I said, “No, no, this is not the Word of God.” And they’re all waiting for me to go somewhere with this. And I said, “John, one, chapter one, ‘In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God…And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.'”

That’s not talking about a book. That’s talking about a man, Jesus. A lot of people know the book, but they still don’t know the Word because the Word was the Man. You can know the black words on white paper and still not know the Word. And let me encourage you today, friend, you need to know the Word. You need to know His voice. You need to know His touch. You need to know His presence. When He walks into the room, when the Word walks into the room, everything changes. So you can know the book and not know the word.

Am I saying the book’s not important? No. The book is a book about the Word and the book is very important to know the Word, but you have to know the Man. You have to know Jesus in addition to knowing the black words on white paper, that’s so important. So I just encourage you today, cry out to Jesus and say, “Jesus, show me who you are. Show me, manifest yourself to me in a way that’s more real than these black words on white paper. And show me the depths of who you are through this book, and through speaking to me and dealing with me directly as a friend,” because He’s your friend.

God Is Providing Supernatural Victory In The Face Of Adversity

“You Shall Live and Not Die and Declare the works of the Lord.” (Proverbs 118:17) Fear dominates when the WORD OF GOD IS UNKNOWN. Often we are fearful, confused, and filled with despair because we are without an answer. The best place to start is in the word of God. What does the word of God say concerning our life and the purpose and plan He has for his children? Jeremiah 29:11 says, “‘For I know the thoughts that I think toward you’, saith the Lord, ‘thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.‘”

God Is Always There

There are times we will have adversity on every side, but we must be confident knowing that God is right in the midst of it all, countering every attack with His word. He has not given us a spirit of fear, but of love and of a sound mind. In our sound thoughts, we can rest assured that Jesus is already proactively on the scene commanding the storm to cease (See Mark 4:39). Because HE IS THE ANSWER!!! (See John 1:1-14)

God’s word encourages, strengthens, and assures us that what’s happening today will not dictate what happens tomorrow. What looks terrible today will soon be restored tomorrow! “For all things work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28)

He Is Moving

Heaven has heard, and God is already moving! Trust in the Lord and take refuge and joy in His word. Breakthrough is already on the horizon! Very soon, the Lord shall show himself mighty and strong (see Psalm 24:8). The Lord has a way of slowing things down to catch us up to the fantastic things he has in store for us.

There is an “After This” time coming, and in that time, more families shall be united, more souls shall be saved, and the Gospel and resurrecting power of Jesus Christ will have hit more homes than any other time ever seen or heard before. The adversity we are experiencing is just a peek into the explosive revival we are about to experience.

Be encouraged. Manifestation, purpose, and promise also reside in the “After This.” Even in a time where the world seems to be in a chaotic uproar, and we feel as if we don’t have all the answers to the test. Please rest assured JESUS does! Trust God!!!!! WE will come out victorious!!!

Ask

Any time there is a question formed in our mouths we are asking for something. “Ask” is a simple word that has the potential, depending on what is being asked, to have life changing implications. Asking is a topic that Jesus frequently addresses. For example…

“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” (Matthew 7:7)

“If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.” (Matthew 21:22)

“Therefore, I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.” (Mark 11:24)

These verses show us that there are consequences to our asking. In Matthew 7:7 says, if we ask “it will be given”. In Matthew 21:22 if we ask “we will receive”. In Mark 11:24 if we ask “it will be yours”. The beautiful thing about consequences in the Kingdom is that they are good! Jesus is the Way and the Truth and the Life (see John 14:6) and when we choose to live our lives according to His ways those ways produce consequences in our lives, again, the good kind of consequences.

Types Of Asking

According to Merriam-Webster online dictionary there are two types of asking…first, “to call on for an answer” and second, “to make a request of”. To call on for an answer is simply asking for information. On the other hand, when we make a request of someone there is a deeper level of vulnerability required…asking for a raise, asking for help, asking for money, asking for a promotion, or asking someone out. These examples of asking require a higher level of risk, thus are more vulnerable, than asking someone where they want to eat lunch. Both types of asking imply that we need something, but “making a request” is when our hearts get involved.

Jesus Asks For All Of Us

When Jesus tells us to ask He’s inviting us to share our hearts with Him. He paid a high price to have a relationship with us and He doesn’t want it to be one-sided. He had a one-sided relationship with us before He went to the cross. His love for us and towards us has never changed, but He longed for the connection that was broken through sin. Jesus wants to know us on a heart level. He wants us to risk being vulnerable with Him and ask for our wants, needs and desires. He is waiting and wanting to come through for us!

Allow His words, or word rather, to resound in your heart…

Ask! Ask! Ask! Ask! Ask! Ask! Ask! Ask! Ask! Ask! Ask! Ask! Ask! Ask! Ask! Ask! Ask!

…and it will be given!
