Alicia Ramirez takes joy in painting Jesus. For her, it was like seeing His face. But little did she know, the artist’s story and journey started way before she was born.
Painting Jesus
Alicia has been an artist her whole life and she’s been painting for over a decade. But she takes so much joy in creating a masterpiece for the Creator Himself.
“Painting the face of Jesus is pretty ambitious because who knows what He looks like. But I can describe him– his character, his love, his ways. Every time I painted him, I would experience him. Encounter him or get to know him in a certain way,” she said.
It all started with Alicia’s mother. Before having Alicia, she often dreamed about drawing Jesus when she was younger. Her mom is also very artistic, and she started art school. She said she would paint Jesus, but she couldn’t get it to work. That made her stop.
Painting Jesus Was Like Seeing His Face
For Alicia’s mother, it was a joy to see her now grown-up daughter drawing Jesus’ face. With all the skill and emotion she had always hoped for.
“It really moved her and she was like, ‘That must have been what God was showing me in that dream.’ I wanted to portray him this time as a Creator and author. That’s something that I feel like I probably know him the best as,” Alicia said.

Alicia believed that we were first introduced to God as the Creator before anything else. We can get to know God as love, and then we grow in love because we know him as love, and we’re able to walk in greater authority and do the same thing as a friend or a father.
Making His Face Known
“The more time that you spend with God, you realize that the most creative space is in His presence. And there’s wisdom in that space, and there’s revelation, and there’s rest in that space, and then there’s healing. That’s why I believe art is very healing. It’s because God’s creative power is healing,” she said.
Alicia shared the moment when she brought her painting of Jesus’ face on a secular show. She didn’t expect that many talented artists would be curious about it and started asking who it was. That painting ministered to many people.
“It was his word that created that’s the foundation of all creativity. He is the Living Word. And he is in his word, and his word is alive. When I seek his face in that, and include the Holy Spirit in that, and not quench him or try to have control as when everything, is just beyond what you could imagine,” she concluded.
