Most individuals believe that sin can occur in three areas: a person’s mind, actions, and heart. However, according to Pastor Zac Poonen, people actually sin in five areas. Find out below what they are.
Five Areas Where People Sin
Bible teacher and author Zac Poonen revealed the five areas where people sin: actions, words, thoughts, attitudes, and motives.
He said, “We sin in action. That’s more visible. We sin in words when we speak with anger or bitterness. And we sin in thoughts. Nobody can see that.”
“And then we can sin in attitudes toward people. That’s inward and not visible You can have a wrong attitude towards a person for a long time and never even think that you need to repent of it.”
Then, the final area is often overlooked by most people. According to Pastor Zac, a person’s motive is the last area where people sin. He said, “Motive is where, I did a very good thing but the motive was wrong. It was to get honor or it was to please somebody, not to glorify God.”
“Any motive that is not to glorify God is sin,” he added while referring to a Bible verse to support his point. 1 Corinthians 10:31 says, “So, whatever you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”
Moreover, the Indian pastor invited everyone to repent for any sins committed in the various areas. “Action, word, thoughts, attitude, and motive… any area, Lord, I repent. I want to turn towards You,” he shared.
Zac’s message helps us reflect on the areas where we often sin. While we are familiar with the idea that people sin through words, thoughts, and actions, we may have overlooked the fact that attitudes and motives can also dishonor God. Indeed, God has called us to be holy, just as He is holy.
