Today, I have an encouraging testimony for you. It’s actually about my wife and myself and how we met. And oftentimes we can doubt that we hear the voice of God, but in John 10:4 it says, “When he puts forth all his own, he goes before them and the sheep follow him because they know his voice.” And a number of years ago before my wife and I met, I felt that the Lord was showing me that I was going to meet my wife in six months. And sure enough, I met her in six months, but I had no idea.
And that month went by and I was asking the Lord, “Lord, did I really meet the right person?” And the thought crossed my mind, “Well, maybe I met her, but I don’t know.” I was living in Western Canada at the time on Vancouver Island, and I took a train trip all the way across Canada to Mississauga, Ontario by Toronto. I met her again and I did like a triple take. “Oh, I remember you.” She was actually checking people in at a conference. And we started connecting during the conference having a great time, just spending time together. And then it clicked that not only had I met her before, but I’d met her in the six months that the Lord told me.
So I went back after that conference to Western Canada. And I was actually going out to do some evangelism on a Friday night. And my friend Kevin came up to me and he said, “Andrew, I wasn’t going to tell you this, but my girlfriend told me, I had to tell you.” And he said, “I had a dream that you met a girl in Toronto, Ontario, and that you got engaged her.” Well, it turned out at the same time the person who’s now my wife, Brittany, she had a friend also named Kevin in the United States, a different Kevin. And he had a dream and he emailed her and said, “I had a dream that you met a guy in Toronto, Canada, and you got married to him.”
And so I didn’t even have her phone number. I’d given it to her, but it got lost on the way back to North Carolina, where she lived. I managed to figure out what church she was part of and everything, and I managed to get ahold of her family, her dad and we connected. After we were dating for awhile, I felt like I just wanted to give her some flowers. And so I went on a website, I think it was flowers.com or something like that. And I looked at these arrangements of flowers and one of the arrangements, it looked good to me. I ended up sending it to her. And that very day she was actually praying in her room. She was crying. We’d already been dating for a while, and she was like, “God, I don’t know if I’m supposed to keep dating this guy. He’s in another country.” I was living in Canada, she was living in the United States, and this arrangement came to her door. And ever since she was a little girl, she’d asked the Lord that the right person would send her a bouquet of flowers, half a dozen pink, half a dozen red, long stem and a vase with a pink bow on them. And I sent these things to her, these flowers, and there were actually 13 flowers, not 12. A half a dozen were pink, and then there were seven that were red. And she looked at them, she was so excited. And then she counted them and a little bit disappointed thinking, “Oh no, it’s the wrong arrangement.” Well, in the card I wrote down that she was to give one of these flowers to her mom. And so it turned out to be six and six long stem in a vase with a pink bow. And it was an answer to her prayer.
You know, when I was getting those flowers for her, I did not even ask the Lord or think like, okay, I need to be really strategic with this. But when we’re seeking the Lord, we’re seeking His face, we’re asking for His help, and we’re trying to hear His voice, do you know that He will even honor you in your ignorance? He’ll even honor you in your mistakes, because you’re one of His sheep. You hear His voice and He honors your faith. So be encouraged today.
God, I pray that you would give clarity and peace to those who are trying to seek you. Those who are trying to follow you. Those who are trying to hear your voice. And I thank you that you have grace, even when we don’t hear you perfectly. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
