Four hundred IDF reservists who fought during the 2014 Operation Protective Edge have appealed to Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu demanding that he work harder for the return of the bodies of the missing soldiers Hadar Goldin and Oron Shaul, whose bodies have been held by Hamas after they were killed during the war.
The reserve soldiers returned the medals of valor they received for their service during the Operation and said in an open letter to Netanyahu that the wound of the 2014 war would not close until the soldiers’ remains were returned to Israel.
“Operation Protective Edge will not end until Lieutenant Hadar Goldin, and Staff Sergeant Oron Shaul come home,” Staff Sergeant Or Cohen, who served with Goldin in the Givat Brigade during the fighting, told Tazpit Press Service (TPS). “We demand that the prime minister insist on the return of our comrades as a prerequisite for the agreement to rehabilitate Gaza which is taking shape.
“But he shouldn’t exchange terrorists. We are against such an exchange,” Cohen added. “This is not only a private struggle to return the body of my friend, but also a moral struggle. Every 18 year old citizen who enlists – his family has to know that the government will bring back every soldier, dead or alive,” Cohen concluded.

An initial investigation concluded that the shots were most likely fired from a passing vehicle coming from the area of Jalazone.
