Relationship with God is personal.
As a new Christian, it was challenging figuring out how to talk to God. Though, I knew of Jesus and I gave my life to Him, I still felt as if I didn’t know Him. I thought relationship with Jesus had to look a certain way and it was preventing me from making it my own.
Relationship With God
Obviously, as you grow in faith and in relationship with God, you realize who your favorite leaders are and go to prophets of today are. You can’t help but admire God’s voice in their life and the fruit of their ministries. The pressure of yearning for your life to look something similar seems impossible and unattainable. Truth is, I didn’t realize that I wasn’t yearning to bear the fruit of their life. I was yearning for relationship with God so that I could bear the fruit of my own life.
YOUR Relationship
Furthermore, they always say, “Be careful who’s mantle you ask for. You have no idea what they had to go through to get there.” This is true! Additionally, if you’re going to go through trials, let it be YOUR trials with God. If you’re going to walk through difficult times, let it be YOUR difficult times with God. If you’re going to see your dreams come true, let it be YOUR dreams from and with God. There’s something really special about your own personal relationship with Jesus. Again, you get to make it your own.
Get Personal
For example, I love Heidi Baker. But, my relationship with God has to be my relationship with God. Though, I admire her as a leader and her relationship with God, I have different dreams. I have different experiences. People have different callings. We have different personalities. I have different gifts. You have a different sense of humor. You have a different face. Different hair. Do you see what I’m getting at? Equally important, don’t get caught up in the depth of admiration. Not to mention, you are perfectly you and God yearns to know that person. He wants to use you as you are, with growth along the way of course.
One Goal, Same Goal
In conclusion, relationship with Jesus is personal. God has plans for you. It’s okay if your fruit looks different. Rest in the assurance that there is all something we can have in common and it’s simply Jesus. Sitting at His feet one day is the ultimate goal.
