Has God ever shown Himself to you in a new way? Then consider that in doing so, He may have planted a “seed” of vision in your heart. As you follow His lead, doing what He reveals for you to do, a new spiritual process unfolds.
Asking God to show me more and starting my first journal—one He had shown me in a dream—were the first two steps of receiving a new vision for my life. Little did I know, as I started journaling regularly, that something greater was coming down the pike.
Within months of asking God that pivotal question, He led my husband and me to start making weekend trips from Houston to attend Sunday services at our home church in Dallas. We stepped out in faith, and He immediately began confirming His will in ways that made our heads spin. One of the confirmations for me was a startling dream/vision. (I say this because it was so real, I felt as if I had been transported from my bed into an ethereal realm.) The things I experienced were stunning, exhilarating, and unsettling. Without going into all the details now, I’ll just say that I was transported to a heavenly realm where I suddenly went to battle to take back something that belonged to me. Something that had to do with writing.
He starts with a seed
During the culminating moment of that otherworldly struggle, I was jarred back to consciousness. I came to, sitting straight up in bed, shaking with amazement. And I was speaking the very words I had just been declaring in that other place. Realizing I was now back in my bed, I asked God for understanding. He directed me to write every detail of what I had seen and experienced in my journal, which was on my bedside table. The most amazing thing is to this day, God continues to give me insight into that mystical encounter, which took place nearly twenty-four years ago.
So, let me ask again: Has God shown you something new? He may or may not speak to you in dreams or visions, but I have no doubt that when it’s time to move forward, He’ll plant a seed of vision in you. What a blessing it is to belong to God, the master visionary of the universe, who created you and me with a unique purpose. We’re built for it. It makes us tick. When we discover His vision for our life, we might wonder how we didn’t see it all along. But everything in us—our desires, motivations, and abilities—comes to attention the moment He shows us more about who we are. So, He starts with a seed. And when we water it by seeking Him and then doing what He reveals for us to do, supernatural results spring forth.
Begin with anticipation
I once read that vision is foresight with insight. It is beginning with anticipation, seeing the desired end-result. People devise vision statements every day in business, education, government, and so on. But who can come up with the perfect plan for one’s own life? Who can possess a complete understanding of everything that will happen and how it will play out for a lifetime, but God? Truly, being saved and having a loving Father who sees it all, knows it all, and has all power is an unfathomable benefit. Jesus demonstrated this in John 16:12 when He told the disciples, “I have many more things to say to you, but you cannot bear [to hear] them now” (AMP).
When God expands His vision for your life, He tells you what you can handle. He plants a seed in your heart. Then the Holy Spirit guides you into all truth (see John 16:13). Are you ready to receive God’s vision? Whether or not you’re comfortable with writing, you can capture (make notes about) whatever God shows you. That way, you can remember it and do exactly what He leads you to do, even if it takes years for the process to play out.

Dear Father God, thank You for creating us with a unique purpose and for revealing it to us in Your perfect timing. Open our heart and mind to receive Your seed of vision. Give us the discipline and determination to capture and fully receive it in our life. We thank You that You always finish what You begin and accomplish Your purpose in and through us.
