Pastor Peter Tan-Chi warned believers against “pride” and urged them to “be humble.”
God Opposes The Proud
According to James 4:6, it says, “But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.”

In Pastor Peter’s message, he stressed how pride sometimes creeps into a person’s heart without him knowing. He described pride as “the most dangerous spiritual toxin” man could have that is deadly. Hence, one should take seriously the Bible’s advice to “be humble.”
The pastor also referenced how Proverbs 16: 5 and 8 defined and described pride. It says, “Everyone who is proud in heart is an abomination to the LORD; Assuredly, he will not be unpunished. Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before stumbling.”
“We can be proud without knowing it because pride is very subtle,” he stressed. “Pride is all about the self—self-glory, self-importance, self-will.”
Further, Pastor Peter described it as “EGO,” and he created an acronym saying it meant “Edging God Out.” He also quoted what the author C.S. Lewis said, “Pride is the complete anti-God state of mind. It is the great sin that leads to all other sins.”
Be Humble
That said, the pastor shared the solution to such an issue and highlighted “humility.” He referred to it from 1 Peter 5:5-6 where it was written, “…for God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble. Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time.”
“Humility is a choice,” Pastor Peter remarked. “Don’t try to humble others. Humble yourselves.”
So, if you have ever been a victim of a prideful or arrogant person, try to consider and recognize your own pride as well. It might help you grow more in humility before God.
