Pastor Vlad Savchuk profoundly explained the difference between a Christian believer and a disciple of Jesus.
Pastor Vlad Savchuk
The lead pastor of HungryGen Church, Vlad Savchuk, described what being a disciple of Jesus truly meant. He started by sharing 2 Timonthy 2:1-3, “You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others. Join with me in suffering, like a good soldier of Christ Jesus.”
According to him, the common problem that people, including himself, experienced was that they spent too much time at the believer level. Sadly, many Christians have not transitioned to a disciple level. After that, he profoundly described what it means to be a believer and a disciple.
He described Christian believers as those who would come to the cross to see the beauty of God, while a disciple would go to the cross and see the dying world. Furthermore, he elaborated, “The believer comes to eat of Jesus, a disciple is someone Jesus says, ‘He who follows me let him deny himself pick up his cross.’ A believer learns to love thyself; a disciple learns to die to their self.”
A Believer And A Disciple
Moreover, he emphasized that believers were babies while disciples were soldiers. Then, he said that some of those Christians who had been in church for too long tend to reject any discomfort that would compromise their schedule or their lives.
Eventually, he encouraged those people to grow up. “It’s time to pick up the cross and lay aside your laziness, lay aside your addiction to comfort,” he highlighted. He also mentioned what Paul said in Hebrews, where he reminded Christians to stop drinking milk. Instead, they needed to learn how to eat meat.
Lastly, he preached, “I’m just talking to those people today who honestly have outgrown spiritually. And who have become and developed spiritual diabetes. If religious lose that and they keep complaining, ‘Man something is missing,’… what’s missing my friend, you need to become a disciple. And the challenge to disciple is not come and believe. The challenge to disciple is come and die.”
