Pastor David Sumrall of the Cathedral of Praise Church delivered a powerful statement, fearlessly reminding the congregation that, in stark contrast to the world’s beliefs, the body of a believer in Jesus no longer belongs to themselves.
Pastor David Sumrall
“Our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. We do not own it, and we must not engage in any acts of sexual immorality. As Christians, we live according to the Word, glorifying God with our bodies, keeping our ways pure, and steering away from things that will cause us to sin and be led astray,” he shared.
Continuing his message, Pastor David exemplified what the body is not intended for. He said, “Your body is not meant to sleep with a girl who you’re not married to. Your body is not meant for masturbation. Your body is meant for the Lord.”
He referred to 1 Corinthians with his sermon. “Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body.” (1 Corinthians 6:18)
Pastor David is aware that his message may be unpopular in the eyes of the world. Nonetheless, he firmly believes in the importance of reminding Christians of God’s truth and Word.
“I know this kind of preaching is not popular in today’s world. I know young people tell me about preachers who teach people, “It’s alright to have premarital sex. You want to try each other out before you get married.’ No, you don’t. You want to stay clean in Jesus’ name!”
Moreover, he encouraged the church to refrain from engaging with music and television shows that would not contribute to maintaining the holiness of God.
He said, “Beloved, salvation is about a changed life. Whatever you feed grows, whatever you don’t feed dies. Live clean when you’re young, and life will be good as you get older in Jesus’ name.”
