“My father raped me at least 200 times.”
In a very raw interview Joyce Meyer shares the shocking specifics of the sexual abuse she endured until she was 18-years-old. Joyce has made a world-renowned brand on overcoming personal battlefields. In her testimony she unabashedly shares that she was sexually abused as a child, but had stayed away from actually using the word rape.
In the interview, Joyce admits that for many years she recognized the abuse but had never actually considered it rape. Rape was something else. There was violence and overpowering involved in rape. There was force… whereas Joyce had passively yielded to her abuser, week after week, year after year. Manipulation and shame had been the hands that held her down. After many years of teaching, ministering and helping others walk through their trauma, Joyce Meyer had the personal revelation that she needed to call her abuse what it was: rape.
Where was God?
Joyce admits she cannot answer the question ‘why did God allow this to happen?’

Theologians, pastors, and counselors have attempted to give us understanding through the explanation of sin, the fall of man, the battle against pervasive evil, and free will… but none of this can explain away the pain we feel when something like this happens to us or someone we love.
But Joyce pleads with us to cling to God regardless of our circumstances.
“I don’t know how to make any sense of it… but I know that God has redeemed me. I know God better. I understand people’s pain and I believe it made me able to reach out to you, in your pain and your need, and to tell you with all passion: God is alive! He loves you! He has a good plan for your life!”

Can you recover?
“There’s no pit so deep that He can’t reach down in and lift you out. He will set your feet on a rock. He will give you a wonderful life! He will give you beauty for ashes! Can you recover? You’re looking at someone who did!”
There is recovery. There is healing. The Lord wants to set us free of all our pain.
“A thief comes to steal and kill and destroy, but I came to give life—life in all its fullness.” (John 10:10)
