Mike Donehey reinterpreted the Lord’s Prayer so his 6-year-old daughter could understand what she was praying.

The Christian singer and author Mike Donehey shared a beautiful reinterpretation of the Lord’s Prayer in one of his posts on Instagram. While putting his 6-year-old daughter to bed, he encouraged her to recite the prayer. When they reached “Hallowed be your name,” his daughter asked what it meant, revealing her lack of understanding. Mike tried to explain “hallowed” but realized he didn’t fully grasp it himself. He mentioned that if one couldn’t explain their theology to a kindergartner, they might not fully understand it.

The Lord’s Prayer
As a result, he was challenged to reinterpret the Lord’s Prayer, and it went something like this:

“Daddy, who’s the King of everything, I want to realize to realize how precious and beautiful you are.
I want to walk in your ways and bring your kingdom.
I want your will to be done; I want Earth to look just like Heaven.
Thanks for giving me all my food and provide all my needs.
Forgive me, and help me forgive everybody.
And keep me from wanting to do bad things and doing bad things.
Amen.”
Moreover, he also mentioned in his post that there were plenty of ways to unpack the prayer that Jesus taught His people to pray. He hoped that his reinterpretation of the Lord’s Prayer would serve as an encouraging reminder for people to understand what they were reciting.
Lastly, he shared a message for every parent, “Cheers to all the parents trying their best to teach their kids anything at bedtime. It’s hard enough just getting them to go to bed.”
