Upon realizing the severity of the tornado heading toward the town of Amory, a meteorologist prayed on air for those that would be affected while giving his weather report.
Meteorologist Prayed On Air
“Dear Jesus, please help them. Amen.”
This was WTVA-TV Chief Meteorologist Matt Laubhan’s heartfelt prayer that moved viewers across the nation. His plea for help from God has been credited with saving lives.

He worried that the town of Amory would not understand the potential calamity of the tornado. But his emotional response became the warning sign the people needed to hear.
Lean Ann Hubbard, an Amory resident, believed Matt saved lives that night. “He saved lives, for sure,” she told The Independent.
“We knew it was coming, but you didn’t know if it was going to touch down. All of a sudden, Matt says, ‘This is a potentially deadly tornado.’ I just remember him saying ‘deadly’ over and over.'”
And for Matt, since prayer is a massive part of his life, the prayer naturally came out of his mouth as he reflected on the damage the tornado could bring.
“Like anything that you practice without thinking, it just kind of happened,” he told CBN News.
He added, “[I’ve] always taught [my] kids that prayer does not need to be like a pharisee, this long, elaborate [invocation]. If you have something in your heart, say it. God understands it.”
Furthermore, Matt heard that the atheists and non-believers were moved by his prayer. “Isn’t that why we’re here? I mean, until the whole world hears? That is why we are here,” he said.
Deadly tornado
And as for the tornado Matt reported on, it took the lives of at least 26 people and left damage to several towns.
Matt left an encouraging post on his Instagram page for the affected. He shared, “So many are hurting tonight, and my heart breaks for you. I was blessed to learn this “memory verse” [referring to Hebrews 11:1] with a bunch of kids, praising God and lifting up those who are hurting tonight in prayer. Things won’t instantly be better, but surrounded by the loud, young voices of these 3rd-5th graders, I know for a fact that God will be faithful in this time of great pain and heartache and that even though the damage is severe, the goodness of God WILL prevail.”
