Melissa Swindle’s parents got divorced when she was still two years old. She had memories of her parents as a couple, but growing up, their separation emotionally affected her. “What it did for me is that it created a lot of emotional instability,” she pointed out. Further, when she was a teenager, she went to bible school and decided to follow God’s call in her life. There, the Lord started to deal with her emotional wounds. According to her, she needed to be healed.
Moreover, she highlighted that it’s the love of a father that empowers a woman. Even though she lived with her biological father until she was in sixth grade, she still felt empty. “I never felt like I was getting from him whatever it was I thought I needed. And I didn’t realize that till later in life,” she recalled. So, her painful past affected her emotionally and relationally. She came to a point when she tried to get from other people what she could only receive from her father.
Love of the Father
Furthermore, she learned to temporarily hide her wounds when she was with other people. But at night, when she was alone, that was when her emotions would start to overwhelm her. Then, she learned to ask for help from God. “Several years ago, I finally just went to the Lord. And I said, ‘Look, Lord, I know that you love me. I know that the word says that you love me. But I don’t always feel… and I know that there’s something that’s going on, on the inside of me that I cannot fix,’” she remarked. After that, she asked God to heal her wounds no matter what happened.
